Four idols were vandalized at a Durga temple in Tangail under the cover of night. Four idols have been damaged at a Durga temple in Mirzapur, Tangail. Md. Adnan Mustahij, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Mirzapur–Nagarpur Circle) of the district, said the incident took place on Wednesday night at the Arya Samiti Durga temple adjacent to the Radha-Gobinda temple in Paschimpara of Jamurki village under Jamurki union.
Citing locals, police said work on making the idols at the temple began on 12 September for Durga Puja. The clay coating of the idols was completed about a week ago, after which the pandal was kept covered. Durga Puja has been held at the temple for nearly 87 years under the organization of the Jamurki Arya Samiti. Arrangements for the puja have been made there this year as well.
On Wednesday night, someone or some people entered the temple and vandalized the idols. Locals discovered the damage on Thursday morning while cleaning the pandal. At that time, a total of four idols were found broken, including the head of the Durga idol, Ganesh, and the asura.
