It was a real honour to meet with the formidable @LenMcCluskey - former General Secretary of @unitetheunion.
I have long been an admirer of Len’s career fighting for working people, so it was great to discuss what he’s been up to, and update him on the work we’ve been doing.

As Lead Member for Jobs, Skills, and Growth, I know how much our businesses, markets and residents were hoping for a resolution.
Well done to the Mayor, Council officers, refuse workers and their union reps for getting around the table and agreeing this
1/ I am very pleased to share that the *waste strike in Tower Hamlets is now over*
We have negotiated a deal with our refuse workers that ensures they are better compensated and better protected – and which ensures our streets are cleaner for our residents.

“Our members were determined to secure a fair pay deal so the intervention of the mayor of Tower Hamlets, Lutfur Rahman played a part in helping to resolve this dispute.”
“Council workers across east London are taking action to improve their pay and winning. The deals Unite has reached are another step forward in the battle to win better #jobspayconditions for local authority workers.” @UniteSharon

Today, @AminCllr and I spoke with residents about problems surrounding waste provision on land owned by RSLs.
We will work with both waste management and landlords to ensure all obligations are fulfilled in order to keep our borough clean.

I am a child of the NHS. I was born in the Royal London in 1990 (the same floor as my current office!)
I was helped through childhood asthma, and in 2006, they were there to repair my broken foot.
The NHS has been there for us, we should be there for it. #NHSBirthday

Cllr @HussainKabir visited a recently installed monitoring station in Shadwell which measures a variety of pollutants.

It’s been a year since @AspireParty was elected.
Although it’s unfortunate we need a role to tackle an ongoing crisis, I am proud of the work we’ve done and the very real impact we’ve had on helping our residents navigate this difficult time.

It’s been an amazing year for Tower Hamlets.
I spent last year on a different portfolio, but I am excited to move on and build on what we’ve done already.
I’ll have an even bigger graphic for you next year on what we’ve done to improve community safety. Watch this space! 👊
