There’s a deep irony that the only way xenophobic Brexiteers can claim that the UK is doing OK economically is by ignoring the fact that most of our growth has come from immigration. If you make a sensible measure of affluence, GDP per capita, you see how badly we are doing.

You really don’t have to be a rocket scientist, or even an economist, to see how much worse the UK has done than the EU since voting to leave. Up until then, we pretty much tracked the median in per capita GDP growth. Subsequently, not so much.

Here’s a question, @MishaGlenny: why did you feel obliged to ask physicists to “please be gentle” when discussing physics on In Our Time? I don’t recall any similar request in any of your many complex humanities topics. Shouldn’t we be past virtue-signalling ignorance of science?

Can you help, @MartinSLewis? I just received a long letter and even longer booklet from Churchill telling me that they plan to underwrite my car insurance with Aviva in future. As far as I can tell from the reams they sent, it makes no difference to me. Should I care at all?
