A feed chart printed for a router was run on somebody else's stock, their hold-down, their spindle bearings. Same cutter, different shop. Push a compression bit past the depth where it does its job and the sheet you were cutting becomes a template for the sheet you have to cut again.

A 3/4 sheet that measures 0.719 is not 3/4, and the machine cuts the board in front of it, not the number on the print. Set a toolpath from the nominal and the dado comes out loose, or the seam sits proud and you sand the whole panel back to hide it. My export will not write a production file until somebody measures the stock and records it, because no drawing can tell you which board you actually pulled.

Owned or rented is the part a shop actually feels. The customer's drawings are the thing I will not upload, so the models run on hardware in the building and the job stays in the room. That costs me electricity and a box on the shelf. Renting the same capability costs a seat that renews every month, plus somebody else's rules about what you are allowed to send.

I tested a fancier nesting routine against the simple one on a rib bench. It tied on two layouts and lost on the third, eight sheets of ply against seven. An 18 inch rib footprint fits ten to a sheet, so 64 ribs need seven sheets however you place them. The part sets the sheet count, and the software only decides how tidy the offcut is.

A support badge only tells you that somebody tried it, the same way a tool spec sheet reports what happened on another shop's machine. I run local models on a Mac Mini in the shop, next to this router, and the only number that counts is what the job did on my own stock. Everything else is somebody else's machine.
Pinokio System Support Badges
OK I think I need to explain how the system support badges work on Pinokio because even though it can be very useful, it is far from perfect, and can be misleading.
First of all, these OS/GPU badges are NOT set by the builder. It is based on 100% user-submitted information, called "Check-ins". Let me explain how checkins work:
1. Users install apps
2. After installation, they "check-in" to the apps, which posts the install information to the site.
3. This includes information such as GPU, OS, RAM, VRAM, etc.
This is how you can see who ran what on which GPU, which RAM/VRAM, and which OS. So this is from real users, and very useful.
The problem is, some people check in even when the app is not working. This is the problem, and the problem needs to be solved on Pinokio level. It's not a straightforward problem but I'm working on various approaches to mitigate this issue.
For now, there are two ad-hoc solutions:
1. The builder could EXPLICITLY say "NVIDIA GPU ONLY" or something like that on the app description.
2. You could post a question on Pinokio if it supports Mac (Or if someone else already asked, you could look it up to learn more).
Again, neither are fundamental solutions, and the real solution needs to be implemented on Pinokio level.
And I AM working on various solutions that will make this much better. Sorry for the confusion. Stay tuned.

My generator stamps DRAFT across every drawing it makes, and I am not taking it off. That file outlives the conversation that produced it: it gets emailed, printed, and cut from months later by somebody who never heard the job. The stamp is the cheapest way to say who checked it, and when.

Most shops rent their software the same way they used to rent their drawings. What I am building takes a size, a material and a style and returns the design, the parts for the machine, the client drawing and the nested cut layout. A year ago that was a dev team and a budget. Now it is a carpenter with a laptop and a 6x12 machine in the next room.

Two hundred a month, 200+ models, hosted tools, and rate limits that do not stall a job mid-cut. The back office runs on open weights now. Swapping the model is one line in a config file, not a procurement call. I would rather own the harness than rent a brain by the token.

@pdxcnc fang clips holding the end-grain board for the juice-groove pass. Side bite, no clamp in the toolpath. Also running their 5-inch dust boot on the spindle. Less chips on the floor, more of the cut where it belongs.
