SUDAN'S ARMY IS NOW POISED TO ENTER THE UAE-BACKED RSF'S STRONGHOLD In a major blow to the UAE-backed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, the Sudanese army and allied units have liberated Sodari, the adminstrative capital of the last region of North Kordofan state that was outside of its control. North Kordofan is of high strategic importance in the context of the war on Sudan. The state is a geographical barrier that separates state-controlled northern and eastern regions from RSF-occupied areas in the west. By driving through key logistics routes and pushing retreating RSF units back towards the Darfur region of western Sudan, the army’s advance effectively chokes off the supply lines used by the UAE to fuel the militia. In the first year of the war that the RSF launched on Sudan in April 2023, the militia was initially in control of much of the country, as far as central Sudanese Al-Jazira, Sennar and the capital Khartoum.
