According to AgoraCFR's account of today's hearing: investigators who never visited the "crime scenes", a witness who never heard Hajji Lutale say a word, and pistol exhibit slips missing from the file. And still no bail. This is the case they want us to "negotiate" around? Grant bail. #Bail4KB
The trial of Dr. Besigye and his co-accused resumed today with the cross examination of the third Prosecution Witness Mr. Odyek Benedict, an officer at CID headquarters. During cross examination, officer Odyek confirmed to court that the case before court originated from a letter from DPP guiding them to investigate circumstances of Besigye's alleged involvement in acts of treason. Officer Odyek informed court that this case has crime scenes which are the places in which the Geneva, Athens and Nairobi meetings happened, but he further stated that the investigating officers have never visited the crime scenes. Officer Odyek informed court that he did not hear Obeid Lutale talk or say anything in the recorded meetings. Officer Odyek also informed court that he received exhibits including 2 pistols and loose ammunition which he exhibited. Prosecution informed court that the exhibit slips for the 2 pistols were not in the police file presented in court. Officer Odyek confirmed to court that he attached the exhibit slips for the 2 pistols in the police file and couldn't explain why they were missing. Officer Odyek also confirmed to court that the 2 pistols are currently kept under classified stores. Officer Odyek in his testimony before court contradicted himself by first confirming that he did not obtain a court order granting the extraction of Andrew Wilson’s electronic devices and later changed his testimony in the affirmative. Officer Odyek also confirmed to court that the Magistrate H.W Opio Charles Kangira is the same person who granted the court order for extraction of Andrew Wilson’s devices and also commissioned the affidavit of Officer Odyek requesting for the court order. Officer Odyek also confirmed to court that the court order did not grant extraction of some electronic devices including a flash disk, 2 attuide chronometer watches, 2 neck-laced recording devices and a hard drive. The matter has been adjourned to tomorrow 11am for further cross examination of the third Prosecution Witness due to the trial Judge's unavailability this afternoon. #FreeAllPoliticalPrisonersUg

What do we do when the custodians play deaf to the growing anger in the population ?
I recently saw papers about national dialogue and reconciliation. I’ve heard talks about it.. apparently headed by Gen. Salim Saleh. I almost fell for them. I almost thought that perhaps some of the members of that family that became our owners still has some humanity in it. That perhaps they have started to see the unsustainability and the counterproductivity of these atrocities and the terror they are unleashing on Ugandans. But wapi. Instead of starting by releasing those arbitrarily detained, allowing medical care for those they have tortured, etc, they are continuing to abduct more, torture more, imprison more.. ##FreeLouisNinsiima #FreeSamMugumya #FreeKingZale #FreeEriyaJjengo #FreeEriasLukwago #FreeKizzaBesigye #FreeObeidLutale… Look, the names can’t even fit here😡

President of Botswana H.E @duma_boko “Judges are not hot house plants and they will not wilt under criticism” Judges must be subjected to the most probing, most unpleasant criticism by the society. Is it negligence or murder ?
Replying to @GodwinTOKO
It’s also an indictment on the prisons authorities that held onto him in jail instead of sending him to a proper hospital yet they knew that they could not treat him. A sign that majority of people who die in jail are actually killed by the prisons authorities because of their negligence and incompetence. If one is not in jail for murder, why should they die in jail like the many stories we hear of? This clearly showed that @UgandaPrisons doesn’t have the capacity to guarantee the right to health while one is in custody. But all in all, shame on the @JudiciaryUG for dispensing torture instead of justice!

If Besigye was too sick that a soldier, thought he should be in a hospital & not jail, that says MORE about the judicial officers who kept sending him back to jail, even when they saw him faint a few meters from them, than it does of the soldier actually! Heartless, evil, wicked!

No wonder Singiza in Feb 2025 when he was High Court Judge said he’s taking an administrative decision to send Besigye back to prison because he was too ill to be in court. He’s today openly endorsing the very person that has vowed to hang Besigye! Who will still have any confidence in the @JudiciaryUG to administer Justice?

In a semi-serious country, regardless of political affiliation, regardless as to whether you like Gen MK or loathe him, this picture would call for the immediate resignation of Justice Dr. Douglas Karekona Singiza. This is lawlessness on steroids. No one should wanna live in a country where this is okay. That’s not to say Judges should be apolitical. They have as much a right to choose as all other citizens. But this is patently absurd.

Clearly there is a big problem for the country.A very big one.No one, absolutely no one can convince me His Lordship Justice Dr.Singiza Douglas is unaware of Article 208 of our Constitution.@JudiciaryUG
This morning at the Office of the National Chairman in Nakasero, I was honoured to receive Hon. Justice Dr. Singiza Douglas Karekona, Chairperson of Uganda’s Judicial Service Commission, on a courtesy call. Justice Singiza warmly endorsed Gen. @mkainerugaba for President of Uganda. A powerful affirmation of the vision we share for a stronger, more just nation

Hope you guys still remember that Douglas Singiza, as a magistrate, remanded @KakwenzaRukira who had been disappeared for two weeks and was sneaked to his court early in the morning without a lawyer, but visible "fresh" & bleeding torture wounds. He sent Kakwenza to Kitalya for two weeks - the exact number of days Kakwenza had spent in illegal detention getting tortured! When he eventually released Kakwenza on bail, he ordered him to deposit his passport with the court. Kakwenza, seeing the insurmountable odds of justice stuck against him, fled to exile without a passport! Singiza was, months later, promoted to the High Court as a judge, and then head of Uganda Judicial Service Commission (@JSCUganda) the body that recommends judicial officers for appointment - and punishes those that do not stick to their judicial oath. Again, the best thing about PLU is that they document everything. They don't keep it to themselves, for years, some judicial officers were suspected of being "NRM cadre judges", but not even sharp-eyed investigative journalists found evidence, let alone photos, to prove that. Not with PLU. They document everything, and share it to the world - for posterity! I really like this about them, there will be no guessing in the future...

After lost decades of corruption, waste, and incompetence, nothing illustrates Uganda’s decline (or even slow-motion-collapse) than the fact that officialdom now sees mainly ONE SOURCE as the answer to all the nation’s economic problems; it’s long-suffering workers’ pile of savings in the National Social Security Fund ( NSSF)! When that too has been eaten, then true hell will break out. We ain’t seen nothing yet.

Wait a minute- if everything about the recount was illegal, why didn’t the judge revert to the original count ?
As Justice V.F Musoke Kibuuka said on compliance with electoral laws during vote recount; "A snake will always produce a snake. It cannot produce an elephant." Here is our view on the Election Petition decision in Nalubowa Rose v Nameere Justine & others (Election Petition No.5 of 2026 Before Judge Bernard Namanya FACTS. Following the general elections held on January 15th, Electoral Commission declared Nalubowa Rose as the duly elected candidate for district woman representative to parliament for Masaka city with 25,443 votes. On the other hand, Nameere Justine was the 2nd with 20,324 votes. Nameere Justine then applied to court for a recount on ground that the EC had omitted results from 11 polling stations in the final declaration. The Chief magistrate ordered a recount in which Nameere Justine was declared the winner with 25,502 votes while Nalubowa Rose had 23,176 votes. The petitioner challenged the recount that reversed her victory on grounds of procedural illegality, reliance on photocopied DR forms, unsecured/tampered ballot boxes, exclusion of 9 polling stations. HOLDING. The judge held that decision of the Chief Magistrate to proceed with recount after it became apparent that the security and integrity of several ballot boxes and other essential electoral materials had been compromised amounted to non-compliance with electoral laws. The judge further held that Chief Magistrate acted in non-compliance with the law election law by declaring Nameere Justine the winner following the recount. (pg 47). The EC failed in its role to ensure safe custody of all election documents until their lawful destruction The EC’s failure to safeguard the ballot boxes and related electoral materials required for the recount constituted non-compliance with the law. The Chief Magistrate acted in non-compliance with the law by declaring Justine Nameere as the winner following the recount. However, the Judge finally held that the Petitioner did not prove that the result certified after the recount failed to reflect the democratic choice of the electorate of Masaka City for district woman MP. The Judge concluded that although the election and recount did not comply with the law, the non-compliance did not affect the results in a substantial manner to warrant re-election. In reaching this decision, the judge considered the following; The Petitioner did not place before the court any polling station by polling station identifying discrepancies between the figures certified by Chief Magistrate through recount and figures declared by the EC. The Petitioner did not place before the Court the complete record of the recount proceedings presided over by the Chief Magistrate. The Petitioner did not produce evidence that she received from EC the record of vote recount proceedings. In essence the judge relied on defective recount to declare Nameere the winner. The Petitioner was ordered to pay costs of the petition. AGORA's POSITION. The main challenge with this judgment is that after the judge declaring that the recount by the Chief Magistrate was in non-compliance with the law, the Judge compared figures arising from the illegal recount and misapplied the substantiality test thereby declaring Nameere as validly elected. He assumed the figures from the illegal recount were accurate. An illegal process cannot produce legal results. Quote Justice V.F Musoke Kibuuka on compliance with electoral laws during vote recount; A snake will always produce a snake. It cannot produce an elephant. (Kasibante Moses v Katongole Singh Marwaha P & EC. Election Petition No. 23/2021Pg 23.)

Good morning +256. A moment to appreciate Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya🌹 🌺. KB’s quiet, always present yet sometimes forgotten companion, who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I haven’t listened to the infamous Orlando recordings but I wonder if he even uttered a word that could be used for anything. Yet it is his lawyers that torpedoed our belief in their innocence from the realms of likely 🤔to the stratosphere of absolutely 💯. He could have walked the other way like others. If he had agreed to testify against KB he would have become an invaluable witness for the prosecution, believable because he was at the ‘scene of the crime’ in Nairobi. He probably would’ve been rewarded handsomely. Instead he chose to be handcuffed to Besigye - literally. And when KB collapsed and they could no longer be chained to each other he chose his own path carefully and put his trust in the law - (not dialogue!) His decision to go it alone was pre-judged as hasty and some saw it as betrayal of KB who lay in ICU fighting for his life. Best decision ever! We got to meet Orlando, the mercenary who exploded the conspiracy. It was cross examination by Obeid’s lawyers that had the mercenary admitting his stupidity and inadvertently exposing the stage-managed covert operation to abduct and frame a political opponent. It is because of this quiet, unassuming companion that we now know what we know. Thank you Obeid🙏🏾 God works in mysterious ways indeed.

Supposing we had 553 members of the 12th Parliament like @OfwonoOpondo?
