Wow! That is a hugely significant result. Middle East I understand finished a distant eighth in the Priorities Ballot. This means no stand alone debate on Israel despite efforts by the PSC and the hard left to force discussion involving genocide claims on the conference floor. Shows a) decision by Burnham and Miliband to show a tougher stance on Israel from the top has been vindicated.
b) The far left in Labour has been weakened every more than many thought
c) CLPs and affiliates want to discuss other issues including insourcing and public ownership, opportunities for young people, artificial intelligence in the interests of working people, rebuilding our economy for working people, public services, reindustrialising our communities.

Labour won't be debating Israeli genocide on its Conference floor. Right-wingers like Lee exulting in the weakness of the Labour Left.
The decision announced by Izzy Lenga, Sagal Abdi-Wali's good friend and the Chief Whip of the Labour Group on Camden Council.
If Burnham fails it will be because he is thwarted by the Starmerites who captured the Party and drove it off an electoral cliff.
How can Lucy Powell claim that Labour will rebuild a progressive voting coalition when this is how the Party behaves? Won't debate water nationalisation, won't debate Israel, marginalising Mainstream and Momentum.
There are very good, committed socialists in the Labour Party. I can't imagine they feel much joy right now - unlike ecstatic Lee.

The UK is not a country that has borrowed and spent too freely. Had the UK invested at OECD-average levels and G7-average levels over the past three decades, an additional £500 billion of public money and £350 billion of private money would have flowed into the economy, respectively. It is a country that has underinvested for a generation, and is now paying for it through exactly the weak productivity that makes gilt investors nervous in the first place.

The UK government dropped plans to mandate solar panels on new car parks in May 2026, citing cost concerns and industry feedback. A shame really, as it seems the perfect place for plenty of solar.
France ordered big businesses to cover their parking lots in solar panels, and the businesses are embracing it.
Carrefour is putting solar canopies over 350 of its store lots, 180,000 parking spaces, and using the power to run its supermarkets.
Disneyland Paris started even earlier: its guest lot now has more than 80,000 panels over 11,200 spaces, producing about 17% of the resort's electricity.
France passed the law in 2023 requiring most large outdoor parking lots to put renewable-energy canopies or other qualifying shade over at least half the lot.
Many businesses don't pay a cent upfront.
Carrefour isn't even fronting the construction cost. GreenYellow is financing the entire installation and operating it under a 20-year power agreement. Carrefour uses the electricity and says the project will significantly reduce its energy bills.
The government estimates it could add up to 11 gigawatts of solar. In full sun, that's about as much as 10 nuclear reactors.
The US has somewhere between 700 million and 2 billion parking spaces. Most of them are bare asphalt baking in the sun.

The contract was up for Avanti anyway, and the rest is just big talk for a Government that is cutting funding, cancelling infrastructure projects, and laying off engineers and other skilled railway workers.
Enough is enough.
For years, people have been expected to put up with Avanti’s cancellations, delays, overcrowding, and a service that has failed them time and time again.
So my Labour government is bringing Avanti West Coast into public ownership at the earliest opportunity in March next year.
That means passengers, not shareholders, will come first.
More investment, fewer delays, and a renewed focus on getting the basics right.
We're putting essential services back in public hands and building a railway that actually works for the people who use it.
