It was beautiful. People helping people online, sharing experiences and joy. I was so optimistic in the late 90's.
I would never have guessed at the ceas pool it would become. But then again, back then I was asleep. I didn't know how widespread the influence of Satan was.
Early internet was peak wild frontier territory. There were no tech degrees and academic grounding in how to do it or YouTubes to figure it out...you either knew it or you didn't.
Library computer labs were full of people trying to figure out basic word processing.
Fee based “Search engine optimization” destroyed the internet. Once upon a time one could search and truly find things. Now one only sees what people pay for you to see.
Emerging things always hit a peak shortly after they are suitable for the masses. America is no different. Once requiring rugged individualism to thrive, once it became a system for anyone and everyone with an easy button, it was ruined. That's the internet too.
Its so sad. I just tried visiting an old forum. It is dead, last posts were from months ago. Newest member was almost 1 year ago. The only new posts are for chat rooms explicit stuff etc. its just fuckin sad. Remember old youtube??
I remember when there were only avant-garde people on the internet and supermarkets did not yet have websites.
Weird how now, the pub is new avant-garde hub.
Want to keep something special and vital?
Keep it off the internet.
I remember trying to look up anything about Calvin and Hobbes in the very early days and there wasn’t anything - those kind of pages weren’t built yet.
“Yes, it’s state controlled but it is protected”@BasedTorba making the case for digital id :) He’s sensing the right “reaction”, the chaos, the pain of it all, and has a “solution”to the “problem”. The time is now.
Sorry Torba. The internet sucks because our souls are dirty and there will be holy fire rained down from above if we continue to refuse to clean them. Technology needs to evolve away from desks and back into the world. WW3 will require people be more mobile. It will drive it.
Well said Andrew. The need the decentralize all systems is needed. I as a developer and IT tradesman will look to bring products that are not part of social media cesspol, but more part of the physical world. The robots are coming and it will make the internet days look like an archaic relic. Build systems and tools for betterment of humans.
