Each detail you share is one more thing people connect with you and your topic. So write about your life: where you live, how many siblings you have, where you went to school, what your hobbies are. curious if Jev-like models might accelerate us towards on-device AI native functionality on mobile devices strong LLMs are a long way from running on phones: - slow memory bandwidth - only highly quantized MoE models will fit - lots of issues with power/heat/etc Folks are building NPUs for the next gen of mobile but targeting pretty modestly sized LLMs There’s lots of mobile UX that would benefit from fast/cheap AI decision models - from notifications, typing/texting, to in-app experiences like inboxes/calendars/etc I always figured the other solution would be a model-on-a-chip that would encode an older-yet-useful model into the actual phone hardware itself, but maybe this will move faster?

by now we’re used to: - frontier model launches - 6-12 months later, the chinese open weight models close the gap this week we’re seeing: - jev launches - a few days later, swarms of US AI developers ship their own open weight models :) tracking 2-3 early ones so far, but looks like some great open weight alternatives coming within the week I’m sure there will be some great chinese open weight alts for jev coming also

MCP vs CLI for LLMs is the wrong discussion. People are debating at the wrong layer. Both work incredibly well as long as they are run through a repl like environment that can persist state. The funny thing about CLI is that CLI tools are usually accessed through BASH which happens to be a repl with persistent state (the file system), therefore cli works much better than mcp. But this isn't even close to being an intrinsic property of MCP. Just means that we need better harnesses. Right now the best repl for this are: - bash + fs - jupyter kernels - codemode type repls, usually quickjs LLMs understand the concept of forward evolving a system to solve a need very well. This comes from the agentic RL. They understand how to change the state of a codebase or acquire data from databases and then operate on it similarly to humans. But without an execution environment, they actually cannot do this properly. My bet? Sometime soon someone will (or has already?) create a embeddable, sqlite style mini execution environment that parses bash, typescript, or tool calls into a common IL execution plan that's easy to security check before executing. And design this specifically for durable execution environments. Then we will just connect cli, mcp, webmcp, whatever to that and it accepts any of the input modalities as they can all be represented as each other.

I recorded a 41-minute tutorial on how I use Astra to create insane three.js websites in Codex. I've been using DiffUI to brainstorm UIs before moving into code. It's fast and cheap, generates multiple variants and lets me branch ideas, sections, logos, and other components. Then I use "Copy for agent" and bring everything into Codex where I add transparent PNG layers, animations, and three.js skills. There are so many seasoned software executives who are completely out of their element with the types of products that will breakout in the next few years. Over the last 20 years, their brains were wired to build apps that deliver value by outputting deterministic results, but AI produces value from probabilistic results. This is such a different way to approach how something should work. Young people who are thinking in this way from the outset will be at a significant advantage -- in the same way they were advantaged when thinking about how products could be social in 2010.

Jev is going to change the prosumer/consumer AI landscape by unlocking a specific thing: Ad-supported + free AI native apps this is going to usher in a generation of new AI-native marketplaces, social networks, photo apps, messaging, calendars, email, collab tools, and much more. Why? Previously, if you wanted to have an AI-native app with multiple/fast LLM calls on every screen, the math just didn’t work - inference costs just couldn’t be paid back from throwing a few video ads or affiliate links. So there were really just two solutions: 1) be a massive company and subsidize AI costs 2) charge a subscription fee to cover inference (or both) So what happens when you take a different approach that’s looks to be, initially, >400x cheaper than a more general LLM? I think it means that app developers are going to make their apps smarter and different in interesting ways. It won’t be as generically powerful as LLMs, but instead folks will create highly differentiated point solutions. You may not have a generically powerful virtual admin to schedule all your meetings, but you may have a free/ad-powered assistant that can comb through your inbox, filter for only important emails, figure out important dates, prioritize contacts, and do other interesting 80/20 work. Same for generically powerful virtual companions, or app builders, etc - it may be that we can hybridize the LLM and future Jev-like models that adds “wow” features at 1/1000ths of the cost, to make the economics work. If folks hear of interesting new apps/interactions/etc built on Jev, I’d love to hear it!
