Interesting comparison between #LUNA and #LUNC, and this genuinely isn't a dig at LUNA. I took a look through the development history of both chains. 👇 The old Terraform Labs LUNA core repo effectively ended at v2.12.4 in August 2024, but importantly, 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗜𝗗𝗡'𝗧 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲. The Phoenix Foundation/community picked up the chain and LUNA has since reached v2.20.0. What surprised me was the difference in the underlying technology stacks today: 🔵 𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗔 𝘃𝟮.𝟮𝟬 Cosmos SDK → 0.50.15 wasmd → 0.54.9 wasmvm → 2.2.8 IBC-Go → 8.8.0 🟡 𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗥𝗔 𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗖 Cosmos SDK → 0.53.6 wasmd → 0.61.8 wasmvm → 3.0.3 IBC-Go → 10.5.0 Both currently use CometBFT 0.38.21. So despite everything #LUNC has been through since 2022, Terra Classic has actually pushed considerably further forward across several major Cosmos/CosmWasm components. That's quite an achievement for a chain that was effectively left for dead after the collapse. But it's also worth looking at the other side. 𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗔 𝗜𝗦𝗡'𝗧 𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗗. It has continued receiving community-led upgrades, including security work. The difference is that development today appears to be operating with far fewer resources than during the TFL era. Meanwhile, Terra Classic has just completed another mandatory security upgrade: v4.0.1-patch.3 ahead of disclosure of a critical CosmWasm-related vulnerability. This isn't something to mock LUNA for. If anything, it demonstrates just how difficult maintaining an independent Layer 1 blockchain really is once the huge company and resources behind it disappear. You genuinely cannot make this stuff up. This is terra-luna:native in a nutshell: A wallet with ~2B voting power votes NO on our proposal to fund ongoing Terra Classic IBC relaying/infrastructure… …and then proceeds to USE IBC the same day. 😂 The transaction is literally: 75 USTC on Terra Classic → IBC → Osmosis → swap → LUNA → IBC to Terra And what does the TX memo say? “Relayed By Rakoff” LMAO. IBC does not magically relay itself. Relayers run infrastructure, maintain channels, update clients, submit acknowledgements, pay gas and keep these routes alive. Yet while we are proposing sustainable funding for exactly this infrastructure, some people vote NO, FUD the proposal, call the people maintaining it scammers… …and then happily use the infrastructure themselves.
