We wonder why Irish nurses are leaving: Yet since 2020 the HSE has taken over 20 thousand employment permits.

🇮🇪 Irish PM Micheál Martin tells me Ireland is “not overrun” by immigrants -- as nearly 1 in 4 residents are now foreign-born. In an exclusive interview at Fox News in New York, I pressed the prime minister on immigration, asylum, crime, Ireland’s housing crisis — and the killing of Irish-American Jamey Carney. 🇺🇸 Martin acknowledged failures in Ireland’s asylum system, saying it “was too slow” in processing applications, but said the government has since accelerated applications and appeals. On crime, @MichealMartinTD said he was open to publishing crime statistics by nationality, while pushing back on linking crime to nationality. 📊 “I’m not so sure that murder or crime is specific to any nationality, if I’m honest,” the Taoiseach said. “I have no issue with data… As far as I’m concerned, data is important.” Martin called it a “shocking, shocking murder” and said Ireland is looking at tightening its laws, including moving faster when asylum applications are rejected. At the same time, Martin defended legal migration as “part of the Irish economic story,” pointing to Ireland’s expanding economy and demand for skilled workers from across the EU and beyond. 🇪🇺 🇺🇸 The comments come after President Trump warned during his Ireland visit about Europe’s approach to immigration. 🎥 1/3 on immigration from my @FoxNews Digital interview: Full story here ⬇️ 🔗 foxnews.com/world/irish-pm-s…

I kept hearing that Pope Leo XIV was “far left,” and for a while I assumed there must be some truth to it. Then I started actually listening to him. Not clips. Not political commentary. Not somebody telling me what I was supposed to think about him. His speeches. His words. His teaching. And I have completely changed my opinion of him. On immigration, he has acknowledged that a country has the right to control its borders. But he does not stop there. He has also told immigrants that entering another country comes with responsibilities. Learn the language. Respect the laws. Learn the customs. Participate in the life of the community. That struck me because it is neither “open borders” nor a rejection of the immigrant. It is order and responsibility alongside human dignity. Then there is abortion. Pope Leo has been absolutely clear that the right to life begins at conception and continues until natural death. In his encyclical, he specifically named induced abortion and euthanasia among choices the Church considers gravely wrong. And now, as he prepares to go to France, where abortion has been placed in the constitution and assisted dying has advanced into law, the central theme of his visit is essentially a defense of human life: “That the world may have life.” (AP News) Then listen to what he tells young people. Stop being afraid of commitment. Stop being afraid of your vocation. Stop being afraid of marriage. When speaking to hundreds of thousands of young people in Spain, he congratulated couples preparing for marriage and told them plainly: “You don’t have to be afraid to get married and start a family.” In a culture constantly telling young adults to delay marriage, delay children, chase themselves first and keep every option open forever, hearing the Pope tell young people that marriage and family are something beautiful enough to embrace instead of fear hit me hard. (National Catholic Register) The more I listen to Pope Leo, the more ridiculous our political labels start to look. Borders matter. Laws matter. The unborn matter. Migrants matter. Marriage matters. Families matter. Human dignity matters. None of those things cancel the others out. That is Catholicism. I thought I had Pope Leo figured out before I really listened to him. I was wrong. And honestly, the more I hear from him, the more I love this Pope.

On Wednesday I was back in Leinster House and the culture of silence I wrote about below is still very much in evidence. @kenoflynnTD invited all Oireachtas members, and separately the Education & Youth Committee received personal invitations from the speakers. Ministers Foley and Naughton were also personally invited. None showed. @NormaFoleyTD1 @1Hildegarde @CathalCroweTD @RuthCoppingerSP @emer_currie1 @shonaghNiR @ryanomeara_td @PetefortheDail @CurleyShane @SenPaulineTully What are you all so afraid of that makes the harm of this ideology worth it? Is there an acceptable amount of harm before any of you will say stop? “Wilful blindness”, as Sam put it. #BíCineálta and the LGBT agenda, as Michael called it, must be withdrawn from our schools. Both Michael and Dr O’Malley were very clear about the harmful path you are putting our children on. @Michaelwk20 @stellaomalley3 Thank you to the independent TDs, Senators and Councillors who did come and listen. Thank you @kenoflynnTD and Eileen for hosting us and providing a space to speak about child safeguarding in our schools. A huge thank you to Sam for organising the event and for being the brilliant “mother with a laptop” that you are ❤️ And thank you @fatima_gunning for this excellent report. gript.ie/breaking-the-silenc…

Just had a conversation with Bishop McNulty after mass tonight - to thank him for endorsing the new Living Love SPHE - and to urge him to replace all existing SPHE in his diocese- as the current one violates child safeguarding. He agreed it's "vital". 🙏💜🙏💜🙏 Let's make this happen!

Two Jordanian asylum seekers are accused of raping an 18-year-old woman in Galway. The High Court has refused bail. One of the accused said “I can’t believe she remembers this, she was so drunk.” Now either the government was telling lies when they said all asylum seekers were vetted, or else they are willing to accept asylum seekers who behave like this. Which is it? Are women & girls in Ireland just considered acceptable collateral damage for open borders? @OCallaghanJim

'The Ladies Gaelic Football Association is committed to inclusion'. This has been the line used by LGFA management when responding to correspondence from members raising safeguarding concerns about males playing against females. What is particularly shocking about this stance is that every competent administrator knows that exclusionary boundaries are fundamental to organised sport. There are more than 350 exclusionary rules/conditions in Gaelic Games. For example: Players are excluded from age and sex categories where they do not meet the required criteria. Adults are excluded from carrying out certain roles involving children or vulnerable adults if they have not satisfied required vetting/safeguarding requirements. Teams are restricted to an upper limit of 15 players on the pitch during play. Everybody involved in Gaelic Games understands and accepts these exclusions. Nobody says a 16th player is being mistreated because only 15 can start. Nobody says a 20-year-old is being marginalised because she cannot enter an U16 competition. Nobody says an unvetted adult has a right to coach children because “nobody should be excluded.” Rather, we ask what the boundary is for. A reputable governing body will make an exclusion decision once it is satisfied the boundary causing the exclusion has a legitimate purpose, is proportionate and is applied fairly. By the same token, a reputable governing body should not make an inclusion decision unless it is satisfied that someone else's existing opportunity, place, protection or boundary is not displaced. When the principles of good governance and sporting integrity have been so wilfully ignored, 'the Ladies Gaelic Football Association is committed to inclusion' is nothing but a hollow phrase.

I’ve seen this so many times, and I always wonder what she means by “to be effective” — that this comprehensive sex education must begin at age 3. What does that actually mean? If you had two 8-year-olds, one exposed to this from age 3 and the other fortunate enough to have had a normal childhood, how would they differ? And in what way would Aoife deem the child who had the normal childhood to be “failing”? Then I wonder how many children have already had this abhorrent education because this woman, and people like her, were entertained by this Oireachtas committee. How did she get a say in the education of our children? And then I have to ask why none of the politicians in that room challenged her nonsense. Not one of them said: “I think you’re wrong, and I think this — and you — are dangerous.” In a way, that makes them worse than her. youtu.be/vN7qi4cPBag?si=6Wl5…

Micheál Martin spent €70,000 on canapés and wine on 1 July while telling dying Irish children the medicine is too expensive. €11,750 on high-end canapés. €8,600 on drinks. €45–€47 a bottle. Skyclarys — a drug that could slow a progressive disease for around 200 Irish people? Too expensive. Hundreds of millions for foreign governments and international protection? No problem. The State can always find money for the canapés. It just can’t find it for its own people. Irish lives are negotiable. Everything else is urgent. #TwoTierIreland #IrelandFirst #Ireland

Two years ago the Irish people were asked to remove mothers and a woman's life in the home from the Constitution. They said no, decisively. Now the same instinct is back in a taxpayer-funded campaign. The Government's new Strategy for Women and Girls describes those who promote a home-centred family life as promoting "restrictive, stereotypical roles for women and girls." There is nothing wrong with choosing to raise your children at home. It is one of the finest things a person can do. Many women have told me they feel looked down on by this Government for that very choice. A mother's choice is not a "harmful stereotype." I've tabled parliamentary questions asking who decides, and whether raising your own children at home now falls within the scope of this campaign.

I don’t share your pessimism. I feel we are making progress slowly but surely. Six years ago I was very aware of the scepticism at my views that Covid was a pathogenic hoax now nearly everyone I meet is very receptive and many knowledgeable and congratulatory to me. We are moving in the right direction among the people where it counts.

20 years ago the quite wonderful #BrendanGleeson stated the truth, and what did we do..? We did exactly what he warned would happen if we "vote for this crowd to get back in" and we have the same "bloody moron who screwed the place from the time he came in until he left [@MichealMartin]". This mess is on us, the electorate are screwing us all in expecting different outcomes but entrusting it to the same morons while 200 die every week waiting on hospital admission, children are subjected to unlawful surgical procedures, and 15,000 more people homeless since this shower came into government. #IrelandIsBroken
