Starting a new role, there is a natural urge to prove yourself—to contribute quickly, bring ideas and show what you can do. I’m finding that some of the most valuable moments come from listening. At #UNGA, a conversation with Kunle Adeniyi @kunleaden, our @UNFPA Representative in Sierra Leone, brought that home. We spoke about how to ensure country offices have the attention, support and access to leadership they need. That conversation stayed with me. Impact in countries is our reason for being. As a leader, I need to make time for colleagues closest to that work—and ensure their experience shapes our decisions. It helped sharpen the “country first” message I am taking into our leadership meeting in Bangkok. It also made me reflect on what it means to settle into a new role. Learning the responsibilities is one part. Understanding what colleagues need from you—and where you can be most useful—is another. For anyone beginning a new job, at any stage of their career: make room for the conversations that might change your thinking. Ask questions. Listen closely. Let what you learn shape what you do next. I’m on my way to Bangkok with that reminder very much in mind.

As one of the strongest @UNFPA supporters, #Germany’s global leadership of maternal health & innovation stands tall. On the margins of #UNGA81, H.E. Reem Alabali Radovan @BMZ_Bund & I discussed joint priorities, including innovative financing & the importance of multilateralism.

Demographic intelligence is business intelligence. Whether a country has a young and growing population or an ageing workforce, businesses face the same question: how do we attract, support and retain the people we need? During our first #UNGA side event, we heard successful examples of companies using demographic data to better understand their workforce—and design support ranging from sexual and reproductive health and parental leave to menopause and healthy ageing. The results: greater employee satisfaction, stronger retention and higher productivity. The next step is to amplify and scale what works. Thank you to our partners from Sweden and Finland and to our excellent panelists. Through @UNFPA’s Coalition for Reproductive Justice in Business, we invite more companies to join us and turn evidence into action.

A special moment with @HelenClarkNZ, as she concludes seven years chairing the global partnership for women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health, and Monica Greingos, former First Lady of Namibia and incoming Chair—two formidable advocates for women, children and adolescents. At #UNGA, partners came together to discuss how to turn promises into real progress. Accountability is not about spreadsheets or reports. It is whether a woman can give birth safely, whether a midwife has the medicines she needs, and whether an adolescent can access quality care. At @UNFPA, we help countries build sustainable financing for these essential services—and ensure communities have a real say in the decisions that affect them.

.@WHO needs sustainable, flexible, predictable and resilient financing to deliver #HealthForAll. Earlier this month at #WHS2024, European countries and philanthropies pledged $1 billion as part of the WHO Investment Round. We are grateful to 🇩🇪, 🇳🇴 and 🇫🇷 for their leadership to mobilise countries to #InvestInWHO.

I am pleased that the member states of @WHO have decided on a gradual increase of their assessed contributions. Every contribution counts – no matter how small. With the money that we collect, we can enable many people to live healthier lives.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz @Bundeskanzler at #WHS2024: “WHO’s work benefits us all,” adding that WHO needs sustainable financing. Germany pledges at least 360 million euros for the @WHO.

“The WHO’s work benefits us all. What it needs for this work is sustainable finance to plan ahead, and the flexibility to react” These are not my words. These are the words @Bundeskanzler Scholz pronounced during today’s event at the @WorldHealthSmt. We are immensely grateful to the Chancellor for his leadership and support for the @WHO Investment Round. We want to thank all the leaders, foundations and supporters that made pledges today. Together, we achieved one billion USD pledged, and one billion USD pipeline announced. All for health, #HealthForAll

Vielen dank Susanne Baumann, @GermanyDiplo State Secretary, for €8 million contribution to @WHO’s Health Emergency Appeal, and for being the largest contributor to our Contingency Fund for Emergencies. We agreed on the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and, now, Lebanon, to prevent further expansion of insecurity in the region. We also discussed collaboration in response to the current #mpox and #Marburg outbreaks. I thanked the Secretary for #Germany’s strong support for the WHO Investment Round and the ongoing #PandemicAccord negotiations.
