Since 1965, the Boston Police Patrolmen's Association has been dedicated and devoted to protecting and serving those who protect and serve the city of Boston.
For the 2nd year in a row, the BPPA Appreciation Day - a chance to thank and appreciate the hardworking men and women of law enforcement and their families - was a smashing success. Thank you to all who attended and supported the event.
With election day just around the corner, the BPPA is once again reminding its members to get out and vote for Governor Maura Healey. Said BPPA President Larry Calderone, “Since her time as AG, Maura has been a staunch, strong and vocal supporter of law enforcement.”
Never forget our fallen heroes like BPD Det. Roy Joseph Sergei who was killed in the line of duty 39 years ago on October 26, 1987. Survived by his wife and three children, Roy was 41-yrs-old at the time of his death and had served with the Boston Police Department for 17 years.
More great police work. Taking a machine gun off the streets of Boston undoubtedly makes our city safer. To all of the officers involved, we say, “Thank you.” boston.com/news/crime/2026/1…
Great police work! The 3rd time was not the charm for a bank robber who attempted to rob 3 different banks in Boston in less than 30 mins Sat. afternoon. Great response by all the officers involved.

This morning, we clapped @PPD19Dist P/O Hector Rodriguez out of Penn Presbyterian as he left to continue his recovery. Thank you to his medical team and everyone who has supported Hector, his family and our PPD family. We’ll be beside him every step of the way!
Wishing a speedy recovery and return to full health to one of our motorcycle officers who was injured in a motor vehicle accident earlier today. The officer, suffering non life threatening injuries, was transported and treated at an area hospital.

Replacing LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell would be a reckless and deeply destabilizing move. Jim is one of the most seasoned police professionals in America, with the experience and collaborative skills Los Angeles needs at the helm of its police department. At a time when LAPD is already facing a serious staffing shortage, and with the 2028 Olympics less than two years away, political upheaval could push even more officers out the door. nypost.com/2026/10/20/us-new…
Congratulations to BPD Recruit Class #67-26 who officially graduated from the BPD Academy earlier this week during a ceremony held at historic Faneuil Hall. To all of our new officers, we extend heartfelt wishes for the utmost safety and success as they embark upon their journey to protect and serve one of the nation’s greatest cities. Welcome aboard, 67-26.
Public safety never sleeps and is always there to answer your call. Over a 24-hour period ending at 10AM on Wednesday, the dedicated men and women of BPD answered 233 911 calls, which included 3 robberies, 4 aggravated assaults, 1 residential burglary, 18 larcenies and 4 auto thefts.
Tonight, we march together with heavy hearts to honor Police Officer Shane Seiber - a husband, father, and our brother. As we gather for his viewing and prepare to say our final farewell tomorrow, we stand beside his family. Tonight and always.
BPD Academy Recruit Class #67-26 recently completed the traditional class run beginning at the BPD Academy in Hyde Park and ending at BPD HQ at One Schroeder Plaza in Roxbury. The 11-mile run is symbolic of the distance the recruits have traveled during the 6-month training curriculum. Of course, we wish all of our new officers the best of health, happiness, safety and success at they join the ranks of one of the greatest police departments in the nation.

I wanted to share an interesting article by Malcolm Gladwell, entitled “America Has a Policing Shortage,” in the Atlantic.
An inconvenient truth! The unofficial motto of the LAPD during the time I served as Chief, according to the current Chief Jim McDonnell, was “too few who for too long have been asked to do too much with too little.” Even the NYPD with 35,000 officers is understaffed by thousands. To have equivalent staffing to the NYPD, LAPD would need 18,000. McDonnell is doing a fantastic job with 8400, I had 9200 when I lead the LAPD. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1…
Almost two centuries ago, the 1st Boston Police Officer was killed in the line of duty. His name was Ezekiel W. Hodsdon and he was shot and killed in East Boston on October 18, 1857. At the time of his death, he was 25-yrs-old and was survived by his wife and 10-day-old son. 169 years later, we renew our promise to never forget his service and sacrifice.
Every time she sees our officers, like she did this morning at the Mission Hill Road Race, @BOSCityCouncil Councilor Erin Murphy always makes it a point to stop, approach and appreciate our officers and we certainly appreciate her for doing so.

Releasing another man convicted in the assassination of NYPD Officer Eddie Byrne would be an unconscionable decision—and a profound betrayal of Officer Byrne, his family, and every law enforcement officer who puts their life on the line.
I strongly urge the New York State Parole Board to keep David McClary behind bars, where cop-killers belong. Releasing him would once again send a disgraceful message: that the lives of police officers count for less than the freedom of the people convicted of murdering them. They don’t. Eddie Byrne’s sacrifice—and the safety of those who continue his work—deserve far more respect and justice.
Send a letter to the parole board here: nycpba.org/keep-cop-killers-…
More violence. Two women shot in Hyde Park early Saturday morning at about 1:12AM in the area of 114 Davidson St.
Both were transported to area hospitals.
