If the government allow them to dump their goods in Nigeria then we are in for a long ride. Eventually they’ll come for all sectors and many people will be out of work.
It’s so funny how we are neglecting the inefficiency of the government to regulate trade, provide feasible credit facilities and provide a working environment for businesses to thrive and shifting the blame to Igbo traders.
If the Chinese eventually crash the retail market in Nigeria, it’ll disrupt the circular flow of income. E go touch everybody walai.
Chinese businesses are crashing the retail market in Nigeria, and the solution is for Igbo businessmen to enter manufacturing?? Really???😤
There’s a chain of production, and for a business ecosystem to thrive, that chain must function properly. But it’s a pity that a lot of you people skipped basic economics classes.
You want Igbo men to enter manufacturing with this epileptic power supply in Nigeria? You guys think manufacturing is just making jean trousers and oil perfume.
This is the same issue a lot of countries, including America, are currently trying to address by refusing China from penetrating their markets, but somehow, we keep neglecting the inability of the Nigerian government to properly protect local traders and businesses.
These Chinese guys now have Nigerian bank accounts. Do you understand what that means?
You want them to go into manufacturing when you have to source every damn OEM, deal with unreliable electricity, import most of your raw materials, and still compete with people who can bring finished products into the country at highly competitive prices.
The problem is much deeper than “Igbo businessmen should start manufacturing.” We need to fix the entire ecosystem that makes manufacturing and local commerce viable.
