Everything, everywhere, all at once star trail. These are all the star trail photos from the past two weeks compiled into one photo. The photos themselves are unchanged or edited. Nikon Z9, 15 second exposures, Dragon window, @bot took a directory of 100s of photos and overlayed them on one photo without changing them.

That distinction is exactly how science should work.
An exciting signal is not enough.
You ask what mundane instrumental effect could fake it, devise another way to expose that effect, and see whether the result survives.
This one survived that test.
It still has more tests to pass.

The real prize would be an independent absolute polarization-angle reference, together with new CMB data.
That is where experiments such as the Simons Observatory become extraordinarily interesting.
