23 Days of Stagnant Water Is Unacceptable Twenty-three days later, after the rain on Sept. 6, there still remains standing stormwater in an improvised drainage ditch along US Hwy 84 in Shiloh. This makeshift drainage ditch is only a few feet from the residence of the Williams family, with the smell of stagnant water and the presence of mosquitoes, frogs, snakes and other pests. This is unacceptable. FHWA, ALDOT and ADEM must find out how this has been happening and evaluate the performance of this drainage system.

The makeshift drainage ditch is a mere few feet from the home where the Williams family makes its residence, and it has been steadily accumulating odorous pollution and providing a breeding ground for mosquitoes, frogs, snakes, and other pests. This stagnant water has become an increasing problem, and the situation needs to be evaluated by an expert to see if the ditch is the best way to remove the water from the area.
