Starting around 2 p.m., strong wind gusts could bring down trees and power lines. Coastal flooding is expected to begin tonight and could be worst Saturday morning, especially in the Rockaways, around Jamaica Bay, and along Staten Island’s coast. If you live in a basement or low-lying area, know your exits and be prepared to move to higher ground if water starts rising.

With all its power and promise, AI can be a tool to bridge the disparities that have followed Black Americans for generations. Without meaningful regulation, it will be just one more excuse to expand them. Our AI Civil Rights Act will take on AI bias and bigotry at the source by mandating AI companies to keep discriminatory models far from the critical decisions that have the greatest impact on Americans’ lives. Our civil liberties do not end where prompts begin, and it is far past time for Congress to legislate like it.

MSNOW, CNN, and Politico have a constitutional right to put their reporters in the White House briefing room, and no presidential temper tantrum can change that. Donald Trump doesn’t have the ability to bar them from the People’s House, in the same way that he doesn’t have the ability to end this affordability crisis he created — in both cases, the president simply lacks the power and control he so desperately craves, and can never truly have. But, as all small men do sooner or later, he’ll figure that out for himself. I — and America for that matter — eagerly await the day.

My dear friends, Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Our Hispanic neighbors and their rich cultures are the glue that holds our communities together. They have only ever made this country stronger, more beautiful, and closer to the America of our dreams, and I am so proud to celebrate their stories and families during this special month.

The lesson is clear. The Trump Administration was naive to believe in Big Tech's willingness to restrain itself, just as Big Tech is naive to think its abrupt remorse excuses years of negligence and recklessness. The “fail fast” mindset might work fine in Silicon Valley, but it falls to pieces when our civil rights, safety online, and cybersecurity are abandoned in the name of giving these companies more personal data to use and abuse. I have continuously called for stronger standards on impact assessments, pre-deployment testing, and algorithmic accountability and transparency. I would be more than happy to deliver those demands directly to the billionaires who put us in this terribly dangerous position if Speaker Johnson bothers to let Democrats in the room with them.

Today marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. On this solemn day, we remember the 2,977 lives lost in one of the darkest moments in American history – the mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, and loved ones whose lives were forever taken, and the brave first responders who ran towards danger to save others without regard for their safety. We must never forget the heroes and the families who continue to carry the scars of that day. Their courage, sacrifice, and memory remain forever etched in our hearts and minds.

If Donald Trump thinks some shameless bribe will trick the voters into forgetting their contempt for him and his party, he will be sorely, sorely disappointed. Unlike our crook of a president, the American people cannot be bought.

As Smithsonian Secretary, Lonnie Bunch was trusted to be a steward of our stories. He became their greatest champion. Secretary Bunch’s legacy will be felt throughout the Smithsonian Institution, but especially within the National Museum of African American History and Culture, which his leadership, advocacy, and vision was essential to founding. While there is much to express our gratitude for, above all, I thank him for remaining committed to the truth of our history despite the wishes of many powerful people who preferred he hadn’t, and I congratulate him on his well-deserved retirement.

The Trump White House wants you to call ICE whenever you see a Black or brown truck driver in America. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT racially profile random drivers – who may or may not be undocumented – just because Donald Trump told you to.

Happy Labor Day, Brooklyn! Today, I am proud to honor and celebrate the countless workers who make the America we know possible. For their contributions to our economy, for their role in our communities, for their decency, dedication, and determination, they will always have my thanks, and my promise to never yield in the fight for their rights and dignity.

To be clear, there isn’t a non-racist way to call Leader Jeffries—a Black man—a “monkey” or “errand boy.” @WajahatAli, this is what happens when we hold ourselves to such low standards for what’s allowable in our discourse—people get comfortable being openly bigoted. We have to stop platforming and trafficking in anti-Black racism, whether it’s on the political right or the left.

Caretakers taken from seniors, our neighbors stolen away in the night, too few nurses to care for too many sick – these are the consequences of purposely thoughtless, unforgivably cruel immigration policy. Donald Trump aimed his malice at our Haitian neighbors, but he left all of America wounded.

I am devastated to hear of the tragic loss of Pierre Damas Bel. My prayers are with his loved ones and the Haitian community in their mourning. Pierre, like many before him, came to America to reunite with his family. He graduated from high school, was a celebrated student athlete, served as a JROTC lieutenant, and had plans to attend college in the Fall. His death, which followed the theft of his TPS and the pain of being forced to wear a GPS ankle monitor, is a heartbreaking reminder of the real human consequences of cruel and grotesque immigration policy. abcnews.com/US/haitian-gradu…
