Very interesting to me that 8 of the top 10 polluting cities are in California.

Wait, so California is the highest polluter in the US? That's rich.

The CA cities listed had ozone pollution before industrialization, as the “bowl” of the Central Vally traps everything at its base. The Los Angeles inversion recorded smoggy type days when explorers rode horses there. Man made? Not.

But China is making stuff over there that we're buying in mass quantities. So we are essentially reponsible for much of the pollution they generate via manufacturing.

Historically, China has emitted a fraction of what the US has. Current per capita levels are also a fraction. If anyone should be angry about the NYT's comparison, it should be China.

Does China have three times as many people in it as the United States?
