The storm is still underway, and strong gusts can hit without warning.
If you can, stay inside. If you have to go out, avoid parks, trees, and scaffolding, and keep far away from downed power lines. Call 911 in an emergency.
New Yorkers: the storm is still underway, and quiet stretches can give way to strong gusts at any moment.
Winds are bringing down trees, loosening facades and scaffolding, and knocking down power lines across the city. If you're outside, use caution in parks and anywhere with trees, keep clear of scaffolding, cranes, and construction sites, and stay far away from anything it touches including cars, fences, and puddles. Never try to move a tree or branch that's tangled in wires. Watch for loose signs, awnings, and debris blowing off buildings. Call 911 if there’s a life safety issue for trees and power lines.
Hazards will remain after the storm ends, so continue to exercise caution when getting around.
