Let's be honest. A lot of young people have stopped believing they'll ever own their own home. That's what happens when rents are high, house prices are high, and saving for a deposit feels impossible. My Labour government is stepping in to help. With Your First Home, first-time buyers will be able to buy a new-build home with a deposit of just 2.5%. Because hard work and saving should count for something. And because the dream of owning your own home shouldn't belong only to those with help from the bank of Mum and Dad.

Earlier this week I met with people involved with The Pink Frog social enterprise from Stranraer at the @ScotParl. They provide skills and employment experience for people in the local area to improve confidence and offer training opportunities. It’s a fantastic organisation.

Today I had the pleasure of awarding long service badges to @UniteScotland retired members in Ayr. This included members of 20 years, 30 years, 40 years, and to my good friend Ronnie Scott a badge for 60 years of service. Incredible dedication to the labour movement.

It beggars belief that the SNP council is threatening to railroad through fire and rehire before it is made illegal in this country by the UK Labour government. It may not break the letter of the law but it certainly breaks the spirit of it. It’s a despicable way to treat working people. It’s straight out the Tory playbook. Shameful

Over 7,000 people have died since the Scottish Government declared a drugs a public health emergency. Scots are 15 times more likely to die from drugs if they are poor than if they are rich. We can't go on like this.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the latest debate on independence came just before these harrowing figures but it is perhaps suggestive of where we are going wrong as a Parliament, too much of a focus on posturing and not enough on proactive problem solving.

Following my event last week with @UK_Feminista I asked the FM to commit to legislation that combats trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of women during this Parliament. We must do more to stop this shameful practice #FMQs.

Today the Scottish Parliament backed Labour’s motion recommitting to legal targets on child poverty. All parties should now get round the table and agree a package of measures to hit those targets.

The fight against data centres, and the imposition of AI in general at the cost of jobs and the environment, will define this Parliament and many to come. I will continue to support community campaigners and national organisations opposed to forcing these developments through.
