McConnell’s aides make just under $4 million annually, according to the most recent available data.  No longer does an ailing McConnell’s refusal to relinquish power look like the product of one man’s stubborn ambition. Entry-level staffers can get a job elsewhere. But after working their way up with the former Senate Republican leader, might not Carmack and others in the McConnell machine have a vested interest in prolonging their boss’s 40-year-long career?  Who really thinks McConnell wants to be there anymore? Look at his face. The senator appears sad and confused. Let him retire!  The number of times the United States has been humiliated by past-their-prime politicians this decade alone is inexcusable. We need to fix that. The fact that affluent, unelected acolytes can linger in the halls of power for four decades is antithetical to the American system of public service. We need to fix that, too.
