Violent crime is down, and targeted intervention in Memphis has helped drive crime to historic lows. Amendment 1 would take another step by expanding judges’ ability to deny bail in certain serious criminal cases. Amendment 1 is on the ballot this November. Dolly Parton’s commitment to early childhood reading has inspired millions in Tennessee. We are honoring her legacy by preserving the Imagination Library. Today, @SenBoWatson and I announced for the state to fund 100% of the imagination library. This follows investing an additional $4.5 billion in state dollars in k-12, and $200 million in TN Accelerating Literacy and Learning Corps which has lead TN to be ranked 18th in k-12 education and 4th for reading proficiency growth!

Dolly Parton was the queen of country music and the queen of Tennessee. Her music touched lives across our state, our nation and the world in a way few ever have. More than an icon, her imagination library has contributed more to child literacy than any other program in our nation’s history. Her impact is immeasurable, and her legacy will live on forever. Our prayers are with her family at this time.
