US-101 Southbound at Sheffield Drive is closed due to a crash. Both lanes are currently closed for an unknown duration. All traffic is being diverted at San Ysidro Road.

Shelter in Place Order Issued Due to Fire at Battery Plant Facility
SHELTER IN PLACE ORDER – BATTERY FACILITY FIRE
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has issued a SHELTER IN PLACE ORDER for the area within 1/3 of a mile from 7301 Highway 1 due to a fire at the battery energy storage facility.
Residents in the affected area should GO INDOORS IMMEDIATELY and remain inside until further notice.
• Close all windows and doors.
• Turn off heating, air conditioning, fans, and other systems that bring outside air indoors.
• Keep people and pets inside.
• Avoid the area and do not go outside to observe the fire or smoke.
• If you are driving in the affected area, leave the area if you can safely do so.
• Follow instructions from emergency personnel.
This Shelter in Place Order is being issued as a precaution due to smoke and potential hazardous materials associated with the fire.
Emergency personnel are actively responding and conditions are being monitored. Do not leave your shelter location until officials announce that the Shelter in Place Order has been lifted or provide additional instructions.

ORDEN DE REFUGIO EN EL LUGAR – INCENDIO EN INSTALACIÓN DE BATERÍAS
La Oficina del Alguacil del Condado de Monterey ha emitido una ORDEN DE REFUGIO EN EL LUGAR para el área dentro de un radio de 1/3 de milla de 7301 Highway 1, debido a un incendio en la instalación de almacenamiento de energía con baterías.
Los residentes en el área afectada deben ENTRAR INMEDIATAMENTE A UN LUGAR CERRADO y permanecer adentro hasta nuevo aviso.

The Sheriff's Office has issued a press release regarding an officer involved shooting incident in Paso Robles.
On 9-17-2026, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Deputies became involved in a vehicle pursuit with a male suspect wanted in connection with a felony stalking case.
Deputies initially attempted to contact the suspect while he was inside his vehicle in a parking lot in Paso Robles. The suspect accelerated back striking a Sheriff’s Patrol Unit. He sped off and a pursuit began.
The pursuit continued northbound on Highway 101 before the suspect turned around near Mission Street in San Miguel and began traveling southbound. A spike strip was attempted several times. As the suspect approached Paso Robles, the Sheriff’s Office terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns. Deputies lost sight of the vehicle at that time.
The suspect later crashed his vehicle while traveling on Highway 101 and came to a stop along the side of the highway near the Niblick road overpass in Paso Robles. Deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect along with a member of the Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Team. The suspect remained inside his vehicle.
The suspect then exited the vehicle and pointed a handgun at Sheriff’s Deputies and officers with the Paso Robles Police Department. Shots were fired, and the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three Paso Robles Police Officers and two Deputies were directly involved in the shooting. No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Professional Standards Unit will conduct investigations into the incident. The California Highway Patrol will conduct a concurrent investigation.
There is no threat to the public at this time.
This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
