"The main challenge for disabled people is how to obtain accessible employment in the first place. This is the key area where government and employers need to step up." Our CEO, @CarolineJC5, said to @johnpringdns on Gov's #KeepBritainWorking programme.
Disabled people’s organisations have been kept “firmly on the outside” of a key government programme to improve workplace health, raising fresh questions about ministers’ commitment to co-producing disability-related policy. #KeepBritainWorking disabilitynewsservice.com/ma…

The freedom to make our own choices is fundamental. But if someone far away dictates how a person can use social security, they controls them. When we face difficult times, we need help, support and respect, so we can decide for ourselves what we will pursue next.

We totally agree, many disabled people can and do thrive at work with the right support. Better awareness from employers about reasonable adjustments can make a real difference.
📢 Our new report finds that 2 in 5 UK adults who are unemployed or economically inactive have a common mental health condition. Many people in this group want to work and can with the right support. But too often, employment support and workplaces aren’t meeting their needs.

Humans are social creatures, we like to feel connected. For over 150,000 people across the UK, BSL makes that communication easier. We’re not really into ‘awareness days’, but we are into inclusion, so Happy #InternationalDayOfSignLanguages

Lots of us want to make a difference in the world, and we're better when we do it together. Last week, we met with other organisations run by and for Disabled people to talk about how we make sure Disabled people are heard and included.

Since the pandemic, more people have become Disabled. A quarter of us in the UK have one or more conditions that affect our lives a lot. That's why we need to make sure everyone in our society is included in how things are designed and run. #OpportunitySecurityRespect

A real win! Progress like this shows what happens when Disabled people and campaigners lead the conversation. Everyone should be able to travel independently and safely. Now let's see level boarding rolled out as standard across the rail network.

Equal work should be rewarded equally, but Disabled people in the UK are paid less. This #InternationalEqualPayDay the Disability Employment Charter needs to be implemented. It's time for companies to report on equal pay for everyone. buff.ly/9iIhALr

To make our own choices about health and finance, we need to understand them. But what happens when small print’s too small to read, or videos don’t have captions? If you've been given inaccessible information, the Ombudsman wants to hear from you. buff.ly/ytPiwbq

If there's a news story about Disabled people, Disabled people should be part of it. It's obvious, right? But research shows that stories about Disabled people rarely include us. Find out what's going wrong, and how CDJ is putting it right: buff.ly/4oCFB7I

Everyone needs opportunities at work. ‘Disability Confident’ should help employers to reach and grow Disabled talent. But companies can be awarded 'Disability Confident’ status without employing a single Disabled person. Success should mean evidence. buff.ly/eo6uLrr

Research from @NatCen shows that most people understand that social security allows Disabled people to be part of our communities, and live full lives. “The public is sending a clear message – politicians cutting off support are out of step with public opinion.”

It's great to see that the public understands, we all want to live our own lives, and social security helps many Disabled people do that - working, travelling, and living independently.
Despite what the toxic online rhetoric would have you believe, new research shows almost half the British public support greater spending on disability benefits. Only 7% said it should be decreased. The Government should take note. buff.ly/wBIBdDS

Everyone wants to feel valued and respected by the people around them, but Disabled people are facing hostility. Disabled leader Mik Scarlet has been sharing what needs to change, to make a society where we're all included and valued for who we are.
Out today, my view on the recent change in how disabled people are viewed in @guardian. I had an amazing experience as a disabled person at school in the 70s. Since then, discrimination has got far worse | Mik Scarlet | The Guardian share.google/jZxVXh4O7kPy99a…
