Britain cannot afford to lose farmers and farmland and then assume that food security will somehow take care of itself.
A country does not become food secure merely because its supermarkets are full today. Food security means having dependable access to food under normal circumstances and during disruption. It means retaining enough productive land, farming businesses, skills, infrastructure and processing capacity to maintain supplies when the world becomes less predictable. That distinction matters.
And right now, the UK government is failing to recognise and address this. They are failing on farming and food security in the same way they are failing on energy security.
Shameful.
