I am excited to share our preprint! we use synthetic human gut communities to reveal crucial ecosystem-level dynamics that drive major gut microbiota signatures. Thanks to the support of @MoualiYoussef and Strowig lab biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Very excited to share our paper!! If you are interested in how our gut microbes have changed with the modernization and industrialization of our lifestyles check it out! @cellhostmicrobecell.com/cell-host-microbe/f…
S. copri keeps pace with modern lifestyles
Subset of Segatella copri strains have acquired an additional oxygen regulator via horizontal gene transfer, which confers increased oxygen tolerance. These strains are more prevalent in industrialized countries

I'm thrilled to share our latest manuscript, published in @Nature!!
➡️ doi.org/10.1038/s415...
We analyzed data from over 34,000 participants from UK and US, revealing strong associations between specific gut bacteria and markers of cardiometabolic health and dietary habits.
Exciting new #GutMicrobiome study with over 30,000 participants! @fasnicar & team link microbes to metabolic health markers & alter their abundance with diet interventions, teaming up with @timspector's ZOE app + microbiome testing.
These big datasets are what we need!

Thrilled to share that my postdoc paper is finally out today in @Nature. Very thankful to my mentor Andy @Goodman_lab and all the collaborators including @RobynTamblyn.
The unfolding drama between neighboring bacteria:
@Goodman_lab ID mechanism used by human gut commensals to antagonize related bacteria. Secreted effector Bte1 alters the protein-folding machinery of targeted cells, causing substrate aggregation & toxicity

Small RNA in bacterial colonization
@MoualiYoussef @StrowigLab characterize RNA landscape of Segatella copri. ID small RNA regulator essential for colonization & whose expression is regulated by metabolism of dietary components by S. copri

Bacterial small RNA makes a big impact for gut colonization
Monzel & Desai @LIH_Luxembourg highlight work of @MoualiYoussef @StrowigLab IDing SrcF, sRNA from S. copri that promotes colonization by regulating bacterial degradation of dietary carbohydrates

RNA world of Prevotella, now Segatella, gut bacteria unfolding! Includes an sRNA essential for colonization.
Great work from the @StrowigLab. I am proud to say that three of my former students and postdocs (El Mouali, Tawk, Ponath) contributed to it.

Check out the spectacular work led by @MoualiYoussef - giving insights into #sRNA regulation in the unexplored #Segatella/#Prevotella impacting metabolism and interactions with the host & commensals in the gut🦠
Very proud of the amazing @MoualiYoussef for this fantastic work! Finally we get some deeper mechanistic insight on the lifestyle of the mysterious Segatella/Prevotella copri in the gut.
I was born when there was no Hizbullah, Hamas or even PLO. Yet, I grew up in Lebanon suffering regular Israeli murders, invasions, bombings, kidnappings, all over the country. You can only believe that this is really about Hamas or Hizbullah if you know nothing about our history.
