AI is becoming a defining capability of digital economies. The question is who has the capacity to build with it. Africa’s digital infrastructure opportunity won’t be unlocked by local demand alone. The continent needs to build for its own digital economy, but the scale of investment required means Africa also needs to attract global workloads. That means creating the conditions for international investors and hyperscalers to choose Africa: competitive energy, reliable infrastructure, clear regulation and growing AI demand. Government can help catalyse that demand through workloads in areas such as education, healthcare, defence and financial services. Africa’s AI ambitions need sovereign infrastructure to match. Cassava Technologies further strengthens Africa's digital infrastructure by adding Egypt's largest data centre and the first sovereign AI Factory, in partnership with @Elsewedy Electric and @Vodafone Business Egypt, bringing together two initiatives that are part of a much bigger vision to be the leading digital solutions provider in our chosen markets. We are building Egypt’s first sovereign AI Factory and the second for Africa. We’re bringing 20MW of capacity, with a pathway to scale to around 200MW. As our President & Group CEO, Hardy Pemhiwa explains, “Africa currently holds less than 1% of the world's data centre capacity. I don't see that as a limitation. The future of African language AI won't be built model by model, it will be built ecosystem by ecosystem. That was the focus of Robert Selemani, AI Platforms Engineer at Cassava’s contribution to the ATLAS Umoja AI panel at !@DeepIndaba , where he joined leaders from across the AI ecosystem to discuss what it will take to make African languages first-class participants in the digital economy. Getting bandwidth to a data center is only part of the challenge. Getting it to customers is where the real work begins. That's exactly what @LiquidInTech has done in Lagos, one of Africa’s fastest growing commercial hubs. By combining fiber with Taara Lightbridge, Liquid has rapidly extended high capacity bandwidth from @africa_dc to nearly a dozen enterprise customers across Lagos, including internet service providers, bank headquarters, hotels, and a utility company. “For Liquid, deployment speed has been one of the most significant advantages….
