Africa’s digital infrastructure opportunity won’t be unlocked by local demand alone.
The continent needs to build for its own digital economy, but the scale of investment required means Africa also needs to attract global workloads.
That means creating the conditions for international investors and hyperscalers to choose Africa: competitive energy, reliable infrastructure, clear regulation and growing AI demand. Government can help catalyse that demand through workloads in areas such as education, healthcare, defence and financial services.
As Adil El Youssefi, SVP: Global Head Co-Location, put it during the keynote panel at ITW today: “The opportunity is not simply to build more infrastructure, but to create a globally competitive digital ecosystem that attracts the capital and workloads needed to scale it."
