Time for me to say goodbye for a while! I’m not deactivating but will be removing this app from my phone. I might pop in once every few months to give a life update but not until I’ve been totally social media free for a long time and feel like I can come back in small increments.
To be honest I’ve definitely become addicted to this app and my phone in general over the last few years, and if removing the app isn’t enough and I have to actually delete my account then I’ll do it. I don’t want to look back on the years when my kids were young and feel like I wasted it on my phone or for them to ever feel like I’m paying more attention to my screen than to them.
I’ve incredibly blessed that I have 4 healthy kids who have never even gotten a mild injury, but I’m very aware that childhood accidents and ER visits are rapidly increasing because of distracted parenting. It’s never happened to me but it very well could, and the solution is quite simple and I’ll do anything to protect my kids and improve our home life. To remove social media actually sounds so small and silly in comparison to my kids’ safety and childhood memories.
I preach all sorts of opinions on here about parenting styles, how households should be run, the type of wife and mother a woman should be- I’m about halfway to those points myself. I’ve talked the talk and now it’s time for me to walk the walk. Who wants to miss fleeting moments you’ll never get back, having life happen right before your eyes but they’re too busy looking at your phone? Not me.
I will be focusing on being a more present wife to my husband, listening intently the entire time he talks without glancing elsewhere. I will play with my kids for as long as they want, or read as many books as they’d like without feeling like I want to rush the moment. I will use my free time to actually foster my own hobbies whether it’s baking, knitting, reading, writing, or exercise instead of wasting it every single day.
I started this account 10 years ago when I was a 22 year old young woman hoping to connect with other Catholics and make some friends. I ended up meeting my husband on here and we have created four beautiful children. I’ve had the same mutuals basically from the beginnings of this account, and I’m very grateful for their friendships over the last decade. I’ve made two very close friends that are now godmothers to my children.
In addition to the happy moments, those of you who have followed me for a while have also witnessed me go through some major life events. I lost my dad, that shook me. I lost my brother, that broke me. Thank you to every single one of you who have prayed for them and checked in on me throughout the years. Please don’t forget them and continue to pray even during my absence.
All that being said, time on social media certainly isn’t all a waste. But I feel as though this platform has more than served its purpose and I’m ready to move on and enjoy my life it helped create. I love you guys and I pray you all have fulfilling, healthy lives.
