like cheapest hotel was less than $150 for a hostel, but most are $300 for two nights!

You can find cheap spots for 4 euro gyros but accommodations, taxis, attractions (especially small museums) are generally overpriced

Athens was cool but shockingly expensive! Another note, the lack of care [for culture] Athenians have for their city is disappointing, the area was very derelict and unfortunately we did meet a lot of rude people but I’d be pissed too if I didn’t have AC! Athens is good if you like archeology but the ruins do get old: quick.
