Beijing has long practiced panda diplomacy through a lucrative rent-a-panda program, portraying the animals as “envoys of friendship.” In Washington, Xi Jinping announced that China would send two giant pandas to Zoo Atlanta as precisely that: “envoys of friendship.” Native to the bamboo forests of southeastern Tibet and adjoining regions, giant pandas remain a vulnerable species. By allowing overseas zoos to host a female-male breeding pair for a standard fee of $1 million a year, China has used pandas to project the image of a nation that is gentle in appearance yet resolute in power. To soften the transactional nature of the arrangement, Beijing now prohibits zoos from using terms such as “lease,” “rental,” or “loan.”

What's wrong about sending the pandas? What's wrong about seeking friendship? What's wrong about wanting to have a better relationship? Ain't india wanting that too? No?!

And what would you say Gujrat is not ready to “rent” lions to any other IN state ? Criticise China ( and if needed India too) for a fact that despite having so much trade (where they make money) there isn’t one (IN CN) border crossing

Strange, pandas originate from Sichuan, just 100 km from Chengdu, and their discovery has nothing to do with Tibet. Why bring up Tibet? Is that how Indians show influence—just by talking?

According to scientists' research, the panda's native habitat is Baoxing County, Sichuan Province, China. In 1869, French missionaries first discovered giant pandas here. Currently, giant pandas are only found in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces.
