The arrogance and boastfulness are staggering.
Illinois politicians love taking credit for what they’ve “given” Illinois, as though it came from their own pockets.
It didn’t. It came from Illinois taxpayers.
If anyone deserves to take a bow, it’s the taxpayers, not the “leaders” who spent their money.
They take our money, spend it, then congratulate themselves for spending it.
And the projection is astonishing.
They condemn others for the very things they have practiced in Illinois for years:
Ideology over outcomes...
Party loyalty over principle...
Political interests over citizen...
And policies defended long after the damage is undeniable.
They want credit for the benefits while refusing to count the costs.
But Illinois has a ledger.
And on that ledger is Katie.
A 20-year-old daughter who should be alive today, but isn't.
They don't get to crow about what Illinois government has delivered while refusing to acknowledge what its policies have cost.
The ledger doesn't disappear because they refuse to count it.
Can someone please help me understand: why can't Illinois do better than this?
When I came into office, there had been 24 credit downgrades and 20 years of unbalanced budgets.
I’m proud to say that under my administration, we’ve achieved eight consecutive balanced budgets and 12 consecutive credit rating upgrades.
