Only in Illinois can a governor hike taxes 63 times, drain $85.6 billion from residents, and then throw himself a parade for "financial responsibility." It is totally fair for @GovPritzker to brag about any state credit rating upgrades that take place on his watch. Any other leader would undoubtedly do the exact same. But at least be honest about the means by which you are signaling to credit agencies that Illinois' books are closer to balanced: $86 billion in tax hikes. This is the opposite of fiscal discipline. And it's why Illinois still has the lowest state credit rating in the nation, despite recent upgrades. In no meaningful sense is there anything remotely close to fiscal responsibility in Illinois without reforming the state's infamously broken pension system, which continues to grow worse even as Illinoisans' tax burden endlessly spikes to pay it down.
