With the kids back to school and the Illuminations switched on, a fantastic summer season draws to a close. There’s plenty to be proud of – and plenty to look forward to in Blackpool. 🗼 I welcomed Tourism Minister @Steph_Peacock to Blackpool to talk tourism, investment and Blackpool’s future. As chair of the @APPGHandT, I've worked closely with Stephanie for the last two years in Westminster, repeatedly telling her and other senior colleagues all the reasons why Blackpool is the beating heart of British seaside tourism and why it deserves recognition and investment at the very top of government.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔 𝗡𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗣𝗢𝗢𝗟! ✨🎡 Last night, Blackpool once again lit up the Lancashire coast as we officially switched on the world-famous Blackpool Illuminations and what an incredible night it was! I was delighted to welcome @lisanandy, Secretary of State for @DCMS, as my guest and making history as the first sitting Culture Secretary to attend the Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On. It was fantastic to have Lisa here to celebrate the crown jewels of British tourism and everything Blackpool has to offer. A huge thank you to @PaddyMcGuinness for doing the honours of officially switching on the lights, @BBCLancashire for hosting the evening, and @itsfiveofficial for a brilliant headline performance. Events like this don’t happen by accident. Huge credit must go to Kate Shane and the entire team at @BPLTourismLTD, @BpoolCouncil @visitBlackpool and @EnvecoNw who work incredibly hard to make the Switch-On such a success. And a special thank you to Richard Williams and the brilliant team at the Lightworks facility - the people who quite literally make Blackpool shine. Their skill, creativity and craftsmanship bring the Illuminations to life year after year. That includes the incredible artists and designers who have helped create this year’s display, including @LlewelynBowen , @toyahofficial and Dr Chila Kumari Singh Burman. But most importantly, thank you to the people of #Blackpool. It’s our residents who give this event its heart and make the Illuminations so special each and every year. The lights are on. The Illuminations are back. And Blackpool is shining once again!
