Ned Nwoko’s “Mosquito Trial” Ends in Defeat, we Won
The Federal High Court has brought the so-called “Mosquito Trial” to an end and we won. The case, instituted by the Nigeria Police, on behalf of the so-called billionaire, Ned Nwoko ended ingloriously today after four years of legal proceedings.
Justice Emeka Nwite struck out the case.
It began in 2022, when the Nigeria police arrested me following a cybercrime complaint by Ned Nwoko. I was accused of cyberbullying Mr. Nwoko because
@SaharaReporters had published a report about his foundation and its widely publicised campaign to eradicate mosquitoes in Africa.
The allegations went even further. I was accused of suggesting that donors were being scammed in the name of the mosquito-eradication project.
But I asked a simple question, if mosquitoes could not be eradicated around his own residence in Abuja, how exactly did he intend to eradicate them across Africa?
That question landed me in court.
For four long years, I stood my ground. Today, the case has ended and we won.
They tried to turn journalism, criticism and legitimate questions into a criminal case. They tried to intimidate me, but they failed.
Four years later, the mosquito has finally been swatted.
Truth may be delayed, but it cannot be permanently buried.
We won.
