In Fairfax County, Virginia, security staff asked Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano and his chief deputy Kyle Manikas to pass through the public security entrance to the Fairfax County Courthouse. Security footage showed Descano becoming visibly upset, throwing an umbrella, while allegedly yelling at the private courthouse security guards.
After viewing the footage, two lieutenants concluded that "both Attorneys demonstrated behavior unsuited for an officer of the court."
The lieutenants then found themselves on a Brady list—an unreviewable list of "bad" cops—where they remain years later, despite being cleared of wrongdoing.

The unnamed Hopewell, Va., woman was visiting a friend with her two sons—a one-month-old and a 3-year-old with autism.
When she looked away, a man jumped into her vehicle and took off.
Flock ALPRs tracked him; within minutes, Richmond police chief Jake Edwards said, they "find those kids safe, and we end up making an arrest of an individual."
"I think they need to put more Flock cameras out. I think that should be everywhere," the mom told local news. "What if it was your child that was missing and the only way for someone to locate their car within a reasonable time before anything to happen was cameras that was put around the city that don't nobody know about?"

Give New Yorkers an honest deadline on the Rikers situation—and actually meet it
Mamdani's administration admitted that the legal deadline to close Rikers in August 2027 was not happening. Replacement complexes are expected to remain under construction until at least 2032, and don't have the capacity to hold the Rikers population.
