I am glad some of you are happy with a CFP24.
I believe, however, we are losing something that made us love this sport & I think by 2030, ratings & fan interest are going to show that the health of the sport takes a hit from this.

This is something that I don't get.
A 24 team playoff doesn't crown a true champion. It doesn't crown the best team of the total season. It crowns the best tournament team, the one who can get hot for 4-5 games.
Meanwhile, the 4-team playoff and BCS era *required* you to have the best total season, beginning to end, to be champion. I'd argue that's much more valuable.
For years we all envied the FCS ability to crown a true champion with their playoff system.
How many teams make the FCS playoffs? 24.

The lack of urgency on any CFB Saturday is now gone.
Every 10-2 team is in. Probably every 9-3 SEC/Big Ten team is in and even some 8-4.

NASCAR went from the second most watched sport to nothing by implementing postseason gimmicks and chasing a mainstream audience. They tried to undo it but they had their lowest ratings ever for the 2025 title race. I never thought we’d see another sport be so shortsighted.
Sources: The College Football Playoff is nearing a deal to expand to 24 teams, per sources. The new format will start in 2027 and is expected to come together in the near future, pending final approvals.
