I love the scene in "The Lost Weekend," now on @tcm, where alcoholic Ray Milland tries to hock his typewriter and finds all pawnshops closed on Third Avenue. He didn't realize it was Yom Kippur. Jewish-owned or not, the shops shut their doors. Nice New York touch.
This hardly comes as a surprise. Trump embodies the joke about a self-centered guy at a dinner who goes on and on about himself with the woman next to him. Finally he catches himself and says, "Enough about me. Let's talk about you. What do you think of me?"
In a speech the other day before a conservative Christian audience, Giuliani called DA Fani Willis a "ho." "Fani the ho," he said. And did the supposedly good Christians take exception? Of course not. They laughed.
Watching Yankees-Dodgers at Yankee Stadium last night, I recalled a Brooklyn joke after the Walter O'Malley-led Dodgers went to L.A.:
You're in a room with Hitler, Stalin & O'Malley, & you have a gun but only two bullets. What do you do?
B'klyn answer: You shoot O'Malley twice.
Went to Yankees Stadium tonight for the first time in a couple of years. Yankees lost to the Dodgers in 11 innings. Wah!
In my subway car on the way there was a guy who was almost a dead ringer for Mickey Mantle. I'm not kidding. It was eerie.
The first 25 minutes or so of "Saving Private Ryan," which I'm re-watching on @tcm, remain the most harrowing cinema footage I've ever seen. And Mrs. Ryan's collapse on her front porch among the most heart-breaking.
Col. Paul Goode briefing troops before the D-Day invasion 80 years ago tomorrow:
"You get your ass on the beach. I'll be there waiting for you and I'll tell you what to do. There ain't anything in this plan that is going to go right."
If there's ever an updated version of JFK's "Profiles in Courage," New York's governor, Kathy Hochul, has just made sure that she will not be included.

Congressman Jamie Raskin apologized to Dr, Fauci for Republicans treating him like a felon: "You probably wish they were treating you like a convicted felon. They treat convicted felons with love and admiration. Some of them blindly worship convicted felons."
WATCH: Complete heated exchange between Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Dr. Anthony Fauci
Rep. @RepMTG: "You should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity. You belong in prison, Dr. Fauci."
Eric Trump: He's the victim that often times some of their communities were. And you see them swinging. Look at the African-American vote. That’s swinging over to Donald Trump in spades.
David Levy, a former Israeli foreign minister, died today at 86. He embodied many of the hopes and resentments of Israel's Mizrahis, those born in or descended from immigrants from North Africa and the Middle East. I wrote his obit for @nytimes:

Trump in 2016: “She shouldn’t be allowed to run...If she wins, it would create an unprecedented constitutional crisis. In that situation, we could very well have a sitting president under felony indictment and, ultimately, a criminal trial. It would grind government to a halt.”
NBC News: Trump supporters are trying to doxx the jurors in Trump's criminal trial.
A non-profit that conducts public interest research found posts of the purported addresses of jurors on a fringe message board known for pro-Trump content.
The same group found a high volume of violent social posts targeting Judge Merchan and DA Bragg. nbcnews.com/politics/donald-…
