This morning, students across America gathered at school flagpoles before the first bell for See You at the Pole. That still matters. It started in 1990 with a handful of teenagers in Burleson, Texas. Thirty-six years later, young people still meet in front of their schools—student-led, not school-sponsored—to pray for friends, teachers, families, campuses, and this country. This year’s theme is “Come to Me,” from Matthew 11:28. We live in a nation, and a state, where students can stand together in public and ask God for help. That is not a small thing. It is a freedom worth noticing, protecting, and being grateful for. To every student who showed up early today: thank you. Your courage is quiet, but it is not unseen. It was an honor to represent @MineolaISD and the @TACSnet at the San Saba Coalition Legislative Leadership Retreat this weekend. On Saturday night we had the opportunity to attend the 5th Annual Ellenburger Cup Polo Match at Fleming Springs Ranch owned by Tommy Lee Jones and his wife Dawn. They are always gracious host and help raise a lot of money for the San Saba Community Foundation which supports the youth of San Saba County.

I took this photograph a few months after 9/11 when I visited New York and Ground Zero for the very first time. I was only 19 years old at the time, but the impact was life changing. I remember looking to my right and seeing an entire fence line filled with Missing Posters, candles, flowers, and stuffed animals. This picture sits in my office today to serve as a reminder that evil has a deep desire to watch the world burn. There can be no negotiation or bargaining with it. And make no mistake about it, that evil still exists in our world today. I have been back to this site many times over the years. I have seen the Reflection Pool, the 9/11 Museum, and One World Trade Center be built all in this location. They serve as a testimony to New Yorkers and the rest of the country that evil will not prevail as long as good men and good women are willing to rise up. #September11 #911Remembrance

Thank you to Southwest ISD for hosting the Texas Association of Community Schools Fall Conference. We received a lot of information about the upcoming 90th Texas Legislative Session, school funding, special education case law, and leadership training.

Thank you to everyone for the “Happy Birthday” wishes today! Last night I celebrated early with my church family at Cartwright Baptist Church. Today, we started the day delivering some good news to all of the employees of Mineola ISD, enjoyed lunch with our Administration Office Staff, put out flags for our Mineola Kiwanis Club, and ended the day with dinner at Logan’s Place with those I love the most. I thank God for life and the many lessons learned in these 44 years and for Him keeping me resolved and on the path. Love y’all!
