Last night about 360 million birds were forecast to fly over the US. Tonight it's about 433 million. The heaviest flying runs from Indiana and Ohio down through Kentucky and Tennessee into Alabama and Georgia. Most of them are small songbirds heading south for the winter. They fly at night, and weather radar picks them up after sunset, which is how they get counted. If you can, turn off your outside lights tonight. Bright lights pull them off course.

The mama opossum looked completely exhausted. A storm was approaching, so she brought her babies onto our porch to seek shelter. I’m so glad I spotted them in time. 🥺
