This may be the most important crypto headline of 2026. Why? Because Justin Sun reportedly owns HTX. Justin is also believed to have billions of dollars in crypto backed loans, much of which likely involve Tron's TRX. In turn, Tron holds almost 50% of USDT in circulation.
It stands to reason that one practical effect of sanctions on HTX by the UK and now the EU is that it becomes much harder for Justin to move money around, particularly between the 'traditional' financial system and crypto.
This means that the next time there's a large liquidation event in crypto, Justin may not be able to move his money around in time (or at all) to manage the enormous crypto backed loans he supposedly has.
That would put enormous pressure on cryptos like TRX. In turn, this would put enormous pressure on Tron, which could create issues for USDT. Any issues with USDT arising from pressures on Tron would quickly spill over into the broader crypto market.
TLDR: after late August, the crypto market becomes a lot more vulnerable to exogenous shocks, assuming all of the above is true.
