I HATE when people use ADHD as an excuse to use their phone in a cinema.
Because you know who’s gonna get distracted by your phone? The guy with ADHD in the row behind you who turned off his phone to enjoy the film in a space with rules that keep him from being distracted (me).
A doctor would laugh you out of the room if you tried telling them you need a phone in the theater for your disability. ADHD people watched movies for decades without phones. Being an adult means managing your disability in a manner which doesn’t disrupt others

I’ve NEVER been the perfect employee. I often showed up late. ADHD meant that I had a really hard time with certain deadlines and organizing my time. My saving grace was being p good at my job despite those shortcomings, having a good personality/presense, and networking.

I don’t agree with Lady Harman on much politically, but the sneering at her over the past 24 hours has been spectacularly disrespectful and ahistorical.
She is nearly 80. Of course she regards it as progressive that a woman can be judged the best person for the job, promoted, and take that promotion while on maternity leave.
For most of Harriet Harman’s working life, that simply would not have happened. A woman could be brilliant at her job and still find pregnancy treated as a professional inconvenience, a reason not to promote her, or even a reason to push her out altogether.
That is precisely why these things matter.
Some younger people seem to have developed the extraordinary idea that because equality protections are now written into law, they somehow cease to be progressive achievements.
History did not begin in 2010. The rights you regard as boringly normal today were fought for by people old enough to remember when they were anything but.
Time was, @ClaireCoutinho, that women had to conceal pregnancy, fearing the sack. We fought against maternity discrimination so that women could be promoted on merit not sacked for pregnancy. I’m glad you’ve escaped mat discrimination. But it’s still a problem. How about siding with us to banish it? @ThenScrewed

Every number here is real. The comparison is missing.
Per megawatt-hour, solar produces about 2 kg of inert, recyclable waste. Coal produces about 90 kg of ash laced with arsenic, mercury and lead, plus a tonne of CO2.
Cumulative solar panel waste 2016 to 2050 runs 54 to 160 million tonnes. Coal ash over the same window: 46 billion tonnes. Coal generates monthly what solar is projected to generate in 35 years.
A turbine gets replaced once every 25 years. A coal plant gets refueled every day it runs. You've described a maintenance schedule and called it a nightmare.
Growing waves of wind turbine and solar panel retirements starting in the 2030s will expose the massive physical nightmare of continuous renewal and replacement.
Cumulative waste is projected to reach 78 million tonnes for solar panels and up to 200 million tonnes for wind turbines by mid-century.
Because wind and solar have low capacity factors and finite lifespans (15–25 years), generating firm power requires significant overbuilding, backed by battery storage, transmission and costly backup energy.
Replacing this fleet on a continuous cycle guarantees an endless demand for raw materials, mining, and manufacturing.
It creates a replacement loop that will multiply mining throughput for steel, copper, aluminum, silicon, silver, rare earths and composite blade materials. Expanding to multi-terawatt scales will exacerbate existing critical mineral shortages.
Closed-loop recycling at this scale remains largely aspirational as blade composites are notoriously difficult to recycle, with large volumes historically sent to landfills. Decommissioning, and recycling infrastructure lag far behind deployment, most likely leaving behind significant unfunded liabilities.
Ultimately, these challenges will become physical, logistical and economic, reflecting the massive reality behind the ambition of the buildout.

My thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Berlin and around the world.
