UPDATE: Senate HELP Committee will now vote on Dr. Nicole Saphier's nominations to serve as the next U.S. Surgeon General as well as other federal health care nominee son Wednesday morning at 9:45am, rescheduled from Thursday.
Senate HELP Cmte postponed today’s vote on Surgeon General nominee Dr. Saphier & other heath care nominations. A new date has yet to be scheduled.

President Trump today announced his nomination of Dr. Heidi Overton to serve as the next FDA Commissioner. Dr. Marty Makary, who was confirmed by the Senate in March 2025 to head the FDA, resigned in May.

When ICE operates in Kansas, it needs to coordinate with our local law enforcement. Our sheriffs and police know these communities better than anyone, and working together keeps officers and residents safe.
I’m closely following what’s happening in SW Kansas and have been in direct contact with Secretary Mullin and local law enforcement as ICE executes warrants in order to keep Kansans safe.

I've been following reports of ICE enforcement in southwest Kansas.
Something has gone very wrong when schools are warning about children going uncared for and businesses are closing in fear. The leaders and law enforcement of Dodge City, Garden City, and Liberal even announced they had no idea what was happening and pleaded for more information from their government. One city commissioner said people are being stopped at random in the street.
This is not how Washington should be treating Kansans. Federal enforcement should focus on serious criminals in coordination with local officials and Kansas families shouldn't live in fear.

I am hearing from Kansans about the increased federal law enforcement presence in southwest Kansas as ICE agents carry out warrants in the area. I visited with Secretary Mullin, stressing the importance of DHS working with our local law enforcement to safely execute these warrants. Secretary Mullin assured me these warrants are only for the purpose of arresting individuals who have been charged with criminal activities. I will remain engaged with federal and local authorities and community leaders.
