Sailed north to avoid hurricane season and instead I get an out-of-season Nor'Easter spinning up just to my east. Good news is, this storm system is sending drier air all the way to Florida for some rainy season humidity relief.

Thankfully on a dock in Maryland while the Nor’Easter howls and the rain continues. The water rise from the wind has required power to be cut on the docks but no need for a/c at 58 degrees so I’m all good, even a little chilly

On August 20 every year, Dr. Bill Gray would ring a bell denoting the start of the climatologically most active portion of the Atlantic #hurricane season. Historically, about 2/3 of all Atlantic hurricane activity occurs between August 20 - October 10.

Even though El Niño is creating above average periods of disruptive shear in the Atlantic & Caribbean, there are still opportunities for tropical cyclones to find a way through. In other words, it's hurricane season so if you live in a hurricane zone, have your plan like you would any year, El Niño or not.

I literally parked my boat close to a crane today in St Augustine hoping the taller rig would give some lightning protection to my boat and its 68 foot mast. Don’t laugh, Kennedy Space Center literally has “lightning protection towers” around their launch pads. Good storm though, was at anchor in anticipation of it, and didn’t get hit…
