First you create the regulatory regime that ensures there will never be a private sector business case to build anything.
Then you slow walk the entire process while claiming you are building faster than ever before.
Then you pay the MSM to regurgitate your ridiculous claims & bombard SM with similar ads & claims paying SM influencers to work the algorithm hard.
In the end, you maybe get a gov owned pipeline that took 3 x as long to build at 3 x the cost all because of the very same gov’s regulations, taxes & restrictions that ensure the private sector investors won’t touch it.
In other words they are recreating the NEP & no seems to notice or care!
🛢️ Today’s pipeline announcement. Nothing’s changed except the name, Pacific Link.
0⃣ No changes to the timeline, tied to a $30B carbon capture project (Pathways), FN ownership, minimal private investment (Pembina 10%).
💥 Key takeaway – the easy part is done. “The real consultation process starts now.”
🐌 The plan is approval by Sept 2027 & Final Investment Decision by April 2028. Three years after Carney’s election. Judge him by these glacial metrics. Highlights:
1⃣ Carney throws Trudeau under the bus, rebrand to Pacific Link.
2⃣ Pathways carbon capture. No mention it’ll cost taxpayers $24B & directly benefit Carney. Nor that by the time it's implemented, global emissions will have wiped out any CO2 reductions by a 100 fold. Besides CO2 not having any effect on climate.
3⃣ FN gets a 10% stake minimum financed by taxpayer funded loans.
4⃣ The conditions to be met over the next year are detailed which will cost $100M+ to produce. Carney gives no guarantees on meeting the timelines when asked. “Extensive, extensive consultations will take place.”
5⃣ Carney deflects when asked why private investment isn’t paying for the pipeline, estimated to cost taxpayers $70B. “The Canadian taxpayer is gonna make a lot of money.” That private capital isn't knocking at the door is telling. They have no confidence in the regulatory, taxation & approval environment.
