Everyone says @base and @solana are the best chains for payments, and that the USDC + USDT duopoly will last forever
I think it's not that simple
@tempo went live in March and its 30-day stablecoin transfer volume has crossed $1B (mostly enterprise payouts and payments)
Circle's @arc public mainnet went live on September 16. $OUSD is coming and 21 banks are planning to build their own stablecoin together for 2027
That means fragmentation is coming
So what does this mean for @base ?
Base has a first-mover advantage in this sector, but that alone isn't enough. The card network comparison doesn't always hold. Coinbase has said $OUSD is coming to Base, so Base faces both a threat and an opportunity
In my view, the real battle will be over agentic payments. Right now, people have to open a wallet and press buttons to pay and that's a big barrier for newcomers. Base has an early edge here, because x402 was built by Coinbase
But an agent works 24/7, never gets tired and doesn't get stuck on 2FA. The chain that's easiest for agents will own the future
