Hey
@jessepollak ,
Now you are talking about old meme tokens. All this while, you and
@base team members hyped up B20 tokens so much, promoted every low market cap coin to pump its price and now that most B20 tokens are heavily down, with no volume coming in, is that when you suddenly remembered the OG memes you sidelined?
All this while, you are the ones who pulled users toward chasing B20 tokens, and for the last few months the OG meme tokens haven't been getting any volume either
Do you even remember how many of the tokens you promoted are still actually alive?
Yes, on Base anyone can deploy a token, and by your own logic a token's performance depends on its community and its funniness but for these, you all ended up giving unintentional support
But there's one thing you all need to keep in mind too you are a public figure. When you post or comment sharing any memecoin ticker or CA, everyone assumes you are supporting it
If the OG meme coins had gotten that same support, Base wouldn't be facing this much criticism today
thank you for writing this up - thought this was a good (albeit long) post. i love this closing at the end. and i think that your broad point is true: too often, memes (and other things) on base seek validation from me/the core base team/some perceived 'cabal' that doesn't really exist and if it did, wouldn't contribute to making a meme successful.
the best version of memes on base is one where memes succeed in and of themselves. because they are funny. because they onboard people. because they make fun. because they piss people off. whatever. but because *they* do it, not because I or someone else says "this is a good meme." if i look at some of the oldest, best memes on base historically - toshi, tybg, chad, dickbutt, etc - i think you see this is a pattern.
i'm excited to see the base trenches continue to grow and evolve and the memes that are meant to, go viral.
