A lot of people say
$ZEC broke $1,000 too fast and gave them no chance to get in.
But the signals were already there long before the breakout.
January: SEC investigation officially ends
The SEC closed its investigation into Zcash, which had been ongoing since 2023, without taking enforcement action.
A major regulatory overhang was removed, clearing one of the biggest obstacles for institutional capital.
February: Multicoin starts building a position
Multicoin Capital began accumulating a sizable
$ZEC position in February, months before publicly disclosing it in May.
After the position became public, ZEC quickly moved from around $430 toward $600.
April: Attention starts recovering from the bottom
ZEC’s short-term Social Volume average crossed above its long-term average.
Price hadn’t truly broken out yet, but attention around Zcash was already coming back.
May–June: The Orchard exploit triggers a massive shakeout
A serious vulnerability sent ZEC from around $600 to below $300.
But the team quickly proposed a fix.
What looked like a potentially devastating confidence crisis ultimately failed to break Zcash.
July: Ironwood upgrade goes live
A new shielded pool and supply-verification mechanism were introduced, helping address the trust issues exposed by the Orchard vulnerability.
ZEC recovered back into the $400–$500 range.
Meanwhile, something was changing on-chain.
Shielded Supply kept growing.
Whales started accumulating again after the crash.
Exchange outflows increased.
But retail attention still hadn’t entered full FOMO mode.
August: Grayscale’s spot Zcash ETF becomes the final major catalyst
Grayscale moved forward with converting the Grayscale Zcash Trust into a U.S. spot Zcash ETF,
$ZCSH.
The door for institutional capital was opening wider, while derivatives volume and OI began expanding rapidly.
So looking back now:
$1,000 wasn’t the beginning of this
$ZEC move.
It was the result of more than six months of signals finally coming together.
And now, with
$ZEC breaking above $1,200, I still think there’s a lot more room for this story to play out.
$1,000 may have been the milestone, not the destination.
