I loved the 2026 World Cup.
I loved the USMNT. I loved Poch and the belief he brought back to American soccer. I loved the 4-1 thrashing of Paraguay that made me believe for a second we had a chance to win it all. I loved Tillman’s free kick goals. I loved watching our players compete and give the country a team it could be proud of.
I loved Rebecca, Thierry, Zlatan, and Alexi. Even when I loved to hate them.
I loved the giants, the underdogs, the packed stadiums, the late goals, the penalty shootouts, and the entire country stopping to watch soccer.
I loved Messi, Mbappe, Haaland, and Kane battle it out for the Golden Boot.
I loved Cape Verde showing the world that a small nation can dream big, play fearlessly, and capture the imagination of millions.
I loved that my non-soccer friends cared about soccer almost religiously for a month.
I loved the flags, the songs, the celebrations, and the stories that only a World Cup can create.
I loved seeing fans visiting America falling in love with our country from coast-to-coast.
I even loved the 3rd place game, something I never thought would be possible.
For one unforgettable month, the world came together through soccer.
I already miss it.
