NFL fined 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk $14,926 for engaging in an offensive demonstration Sunday vs. Miami. “Your imitation of chugging a beer constituted an offensive demonstration and could reasonably be construed as being in poor taste,” the NFL wrote in its fine letter. Juszczyk, nicknamed “Juice”, already has appealed the fine.

JUST IN: First-time homebuyers could get as much as $50,000 for a down payment on a house, under a draft bill to be introduced by Senator Jeff Merkley and cosponsored by Senator Ron Wyden, per Axios

This is why we have problems in our country. The law is completely inadequate to make mega corps feel the pain of doing illegal stuff that hurts the people of this country. But there’s not enough public upheaval to boycott effectively so it doesn’t get solved.
Apple paid $25 million. Meta paid $14 million. OpenAI just paid $3.2 million. All three settled the same DOJ finding: they rigged hiring so Americans couldn't apply, then handed the jobs to visa workers. Three of the most valuable companies on earth, same scheme, same government charge. When the fine is a rounding error, the fine is just a cost of doing business.

"we got an anonymous phone call so you don't have rights anymore." Is a massive problem in the US. We have such a police state at this point that some random from the internet can swat anyone or petition a restraining order that directly disenfranchises an actual citizen.

This is the only way forward. The people responsible for these things need to be held liable for the terrible stuff that comes from it. They might stop “begging” for regulation and adjust their path if they are actually liable for their crimes.
AI doesn’t commit crimes. People do. Saying “AI hacked a company” is like saying a rock broke into a car. The tool didn’t decide to act, accept risk or assume liability. The media needs to stop reporting AI as the perpetrator. If Google builds, deploys or controls the system, Google owns the consequences. Blaming “AI” removes the human and corporate actor from the sentence. That removes accountability with it.
